Default It is really hard to start a small company in Calgary.

Everything is expensive.
I am really upset for it.

Most new companies fail within a year due to lack of capital. I lack the stomach to ever try it myself. Good luck!

Because of lack of capital, it is really hard to let people know your company without good advertising.

It also doesn't help when you try to take advantage of established websites, and use their userbase to try and get free advertizing.

Aw Ken, you're such a meanie. He hasn't even posted a link or said what business he owns. Unless he's done it somewhere else, in that case, I take back the meanie comment. But I would understand. Hard times.

P.S. I'm opening a nails business. $8 for a manicure, pm me. Just sayin'.

I would have to disagree with this. What type of business are you referring to? If you have a good idea you can do very well in this city. If you don't just start a cleaning business and you will clean up...

I also disagree.

Sure, you're not going to be turning a profit in the 1st year, or the 2nd, or even the 3rd, 4th or 5th. But you can do very well in Calgary, or as an extension in Alberta.

Obviously some companies are going to be more successful than others, but if you have a plan, and you can provide a service that people want, not too mention do a good job at it, you can succeed.

I would suspect that most startups fail because the people involved don't want to put in the effort required to make something of it.
