I love my Four Wheel Drive truck
The last two days, I start up my truck, punch it into 4x4 HI and then off I go to work. Today, with all the snow we got last night and what with the road conditions, I was particularly happy. Nothing beats having power to all four wheels. No more trying to get traction at lights or stop signs, good traction when going around corners or curves, good stability when travelling and you hit a snow drift or a patch of ice. Nothing beats it, IMO.

Winter tires rule, too, unfortunately, I don't have them on my stupid car yet, and I have to go out this afternoon.

Where do you work? If it's out in the country or in the boonies / suburbs, good for you. If you work downtown, carpooling or taking the bus makes more sense. The less cars on the road, the better it is for everyone and everything - especially in icy conditions.

Ah yes... gotta love the WRX-sti.
The car of choice for rally racing. Sticks like glue on those race course twisty dirt-gravel roads.

Well that would make it a really crappy car to drive around Calgary.

I live in Okotoks and work in the SE industrial area. Having a 4x4 gives me a certain sense of security in snowy conditions, when driving the hwy back and forth from Okotoks.... way better than any two wheel drive vehicle (even with winter tires).
Don't get me wrong... winter tires are great, but 4 wheel drive with winter tires is even better... and even without winter tires, 4 wheel drive beats two wheel drive hands down. I have that security knowing that if something unexpected happens and I have to bail for the ditch, I can power myself back out again onto the pavement.

I love walking to work wearing my comfortable Columbia hiking shoes.
That way I can make fun of people who drive and come in late to work or those who b!tch to me about the morning commute thinking that I care.

I love my standard, 2 wheel drive Toyota T100 with Nokians.
Nothing beats downshifting in slippery conditions. Great milage is just gravy.
I'm not interested in 4x4s as there are that many more parts to repair, and I live and work in a city, so the 12 or so days a year where it'd be handy just don't justify it for me.
Though I understand Rerun, that you commute many more miles than I do.

I love driving past all those frozen pedestrians struggling away in a blizzard, against the wind and the snow and the freezing temperatures. I just breeze by them in my heated 4x4 with my tires just a churning and a digging through the snow...

Tell that to the several 4x4s and AWDs that were stuck on a hill that I had no problem with in my winter tire equipped RWD. All four wheels going means nothing if they're all slipping.
4x4(AWD) w/ winters > 2WD w/ winters > 4x4(AWD) w/o winters > 2WD w/o winters.
And, yes, I do have a 4x4 as well. It has good all-seasons on it, but 4x4 won't help you stop in an emergency, which is why I use my car during days like today. Don't get me wrong, 4x4/AWD is great stuff, but tires are more important than what kind of drivetrain you have.
Anyways, glad you like your 4x4!

I hate you
I've been looking for a truck for a while now and can't find that happy medium. F150 & 1500's are too big although I'm starting to consider it. Was flipping through the auto trader yesterday and came across a 2008 Sierra 4x4 with only 32,000 clicks on it for 10 grand! Phoned the guy but naturally it was already gone. That was a heart breaker.
