Good thing too, since Americans are evidently too stupid to know who has the ball, what way it's going and where the line of scrimmage is.

So, I got to go to the Riders-Argos game at Taylor Field this weekend.

It was freezing ass cold so I had on a crazy amount of clothes. Sat in row 11 on the east side in the student section (that is the end section where everyone stands the ENTIRE game).

I would have posted this in one of the CFL threads but with the Stamps losing today I didn't want to piss off too many Stamps fans. Anyways, I also attended the Labour Day game this year in Calgary.

Wow. All I can say. Not only was Taylor Field almost sold clean despite the weather but it was about 10x louder there than it ever gets here in Calgary unless the Riders are in town, including the aforementioned Labour Day game I went to. Seriously, Riders-Argos WAY louder than Stamps-Eskies.

Weather like that and a game against the Argos on a Saturday night and I bet barely 20k would show up in Calgary, maybe less.

I love going to see the Flames but man oh man is Taylor Field ever fun. Makes McMahon sound like a friggin funeral.

Say what you want about living in Regina or how they have nothing else but it is all just excuses. Those people just friggin love football. It isn't a coincidence that the Riders sell more merchandise than every other CFL team COMBINED and are second in Canada, only behind the Leafs, in merch sales.

Excuses? It's an observation. Just like commenting on McMahon being comparatively quiet is an observation.

Lots of Stamps fans, including some on this board, disagree. They think the only reason Riders fans are so hardcore is because there is nothing better to do in Saskatchewan.

Others disagree with that statement entirely and don't think the Riders have a more dedicated/fun/loud etc fanbase at all.

I was just watching House Hunters Int. /Italy. When a potential buyer commented on the spartan quality of a kitchen he was told that in Italy it's customary to take your kitchen with you when you move. So if you get caught taking your landlords appliances when you move this is a great excuse.

We'll have to see if it's really a 'period in time' type thing. The 1990s were dead years for Riders fans and their enthusiasm for the game only looked good when measured on a per win basis.

As a Stamps fan, right now I do admit that the Riders have unmatched widespread support outside their main market. Pretty much every year before 2006, Saskatchewan's biggest export to the rest of Canada was it's people and as such a professional football team in a city of nary 200,000 is something that many of those exports are proud of, and they wear their jerseys and go to their team's games in these other cities religiously. It's more of a social event for an ex-Regina resident to go to a game featuring the Riders in their new local city than it would be for an ex-Calgarian to go to a Stamps game in their new local city.

At a mid-February hockey game in Ottawa against a sunbelt team it wouldn't be too outlandish to see an attendee clad in a Riders jersey. That's certainly something you wouldn't see from any other CFL team's fanbase. I bet a bunch of those guys would get married in their Riders jersey!

But it is the reason the Riders fans are so hardcore. Perhaps not exactly the way you phrased it - but it is the only pro sports franchise in the province. Of course the fans will be hardcore about that.

Again, this is an observation.
