Pics from Heat home opener
They wouldn't let the dslr in the door so I could only take pictures via the blackberry. Cell phone pictures are full of suck but it's all I have.
I was right behind the San Antonio Rampage bench so I can dutifully report that Turris hasn't started shaving yet. Next time I'll get a seat higher up for better sight lines and behind the Heat bench.

Captain Palin during the pre-game warmup.

Starting Rampage Goalie Al Montoya.

Overview of the arena. Capacity is 7000, but they can expand to over 8000 by adding more seats at either end.

Scoreboard was pretty cool, they just need to do more with it.

Can't see it here, but they have the BC provincial flag on their left shoulder.

The very first regular season face-off!

Empty seats in the corner. This was taken in the middle of the 2nd period.

Chucko coming in for fist-bumps after his hat-trick goal

i tell ya what, i am super jealous of that scoreboard. thats one thing i hate about the QC. having it on the wall is just cruddy.
definitely a lot of empty seats. while i realize they might have got money for 5100 tickets, doesn't look like 5100 there...

You can't go by the picture with the Zamboni on the ice because everyone is either getting new beer, or recycling old beer.
As I looked around during play I estimated 15 - 20% empty seats. My wife guessed 20 - 25%. If I divide the announced attendance by the capacity I get about 26%. Wife wins, as usual.
I didn't mention earlier that the corporate boxes were all occupied, so that's a positive.
EDIT: But you're right, Dobbles, it does look empty. The pictures I took emphasized the empty seats because I was pissed it wasn't sold out. Consider it editorial picture taking.

hahaha no worries from me. i honestly hope the team all the success in the world. i thought it was a bad idea, but its not bitterness from losing the team at all. i just think that if any night would be totally freaking packed, it would be opening night. i give the area the benefit of the doubt as i am sure its a much better market for hockey than QC ever will be. but certainly not the start you hope for.

wow, they can't sell out the home opener for a brand new team? i'm thinking the Flames affiliation will be too much to overcome for a fanbase like that

Hopefully a half full home opener isn't a sign of things to come...

Why wouldn't they let a DSLR in? That's garbage. I hate rules like that.

Yeah, that camera rule sucks. I was looking forward to seeing my QC Flames, I mean Heat in action this year!

Not having a sellout for the home opener has to be a big disappointment. The Flames AHL team is better than last year but I wouldn't consider them an exciting team to watch. Hopefully Abbortsford can fall in love with the Heat but I have big doubts.

Shouldn't it be an automatic as a sellout? This is a Canadian pro franchise here..
Alright alright.. i've got alot of pent up emotions. I'll get real here.
This is still disappointing to see, the stands look pitifully empty for such a nice building, and for a home opener.
Hopefully it improves

Looking at the faceoff photo, either I never fully realised or I completely forgot that the Flames have two guys named Armstrong in the organisation.

A sign on the front entrance stated no cameras with detachable lenses, or cameras with lenses that extend past 2 inches. Just the excuse I need to get a small go-anywhere camera!
