Default Dual monitor - forcing apps to open on desired screen?

Firefox always used to open on my left monitor (monitor 2 in my Display settings). Recently, it has switched to opening on my right monitor (monitor 1). I can't find anything in the Firefox options about this - any ideas on how to force it to open where I want?

Most other applications I use like Outlook, Excel, even iTunes seem to remember what monitor it was closed on last, and simple re-opens there. Why is FF so stubborn?

I get that here at work as well using the same browser. To solve this, what I do is open Fire Fox, minimize the window (not to the tray, just so it shrinks a tad), drag it over to the screen you want to have it on then close it. When you re-open your browser, it should now show up in the same place it was closed, maximize it and it should then stick.

No idea if there is a better solution, this has worked for me every time in the past.

Thanks - that did the trick. I tried closing it in the window I wanted it to open in...but always maximized it first. I wonder what that makes a difference? Anyway, kudos. Little things like this have a way of driving me crazy!

Glad it worked! No idea why that makes any difference, wish I knew as well. It should stay there until next time you unlock it from that panel and move it.

There's always UltraMon that has handy utilities and will stretch the start bar across both monitors.

I'm on XP, I'm not sure if Vista or Windows7 got smarter with dual monitors but if not:

I've tried UltraMOn twice with Vista and each time it's really messed up my screens. Goinalltheway has the method I use but it isn't perfect as sometimes I forget to move a window to my main monitor and downsizing it before closing. I't s a real pain with two monitors and two TVs, one in another room and trying to track down where the window is opening.
