I clicked on this thread because I thought it was a joke. And it turns out it is: a very unfunny and pathetic joke given out by the Nobel organization.

Ahhem, I saved the world from a meteor impact and in case you didn't notice I'm a black president, where's my Nobel Peace Prize?

It might be instructive to view the reactions of political columnists with a history of sympathy to the liberal side of the political spectrum.

A Prize For A Promise
http://www.time.com/time/politics/ar...d=rss-politics

"Goofy" admits David Ignatius of the Washington Post, even as he praises the award.

"What has he done?" - Nicholas Kristof in the New York Times
http://kristof.blogs.nytimes.com/200...eace-prize/?hp

If his friends are saying stuff like that . . . . .

Pretty funny. Hopefully he does the right thing and respectfully declines so the award can continue to carry some cache in the future.

It's kind of a slow year I think. Obama brings a lot of hope and optimism to the peace movements in the ME and other regions, which is more than others seem to be doing. Although I agree that he hasn't done a lot of tangible things, he has gained some goodwill and put the wheels in motion.

If not Obama, who would be better?

Of interest though, is that the award is not only awarded after tangible results are met, but often awarded as an incentive for people who are in a position to bring about peace, to see it through.

Myth: The prize is awarded to recognize efforts for peace, human rights and democracy only after they have proven successful.

More often, the prize is awarded to encourage those who receive it to see the effort through, sometimes at critical moments.

Meh, this is an oversight by the Nobel committee, not by Obama. It's not his fault they got all caught up in the excitement. It's not right to blame him in any way for this, is it?

He's still going to be the best president the US has seen since Kennedy.

Is that because all the Presidents since then have been rubbish, or do you actually think that Kennedy accomplished anything in the 2 years 10 months in power?

Not really. He's got the biggest set of brass balls of any president I can rememember.

A black guy, trying to put in initiatives that aren't exactly big business friendly, and travelling to foreign countries actually trying to promote world peace after his country just when in and tore some apart...how many people can say they would actually do this?
