Not long ago I was very concerned about the state of our great society, and with good reason, I believed that we, as a civilized group of individuals underused the word 'truculence,' thanks to one upstanding Toronto-based citizen I believe that this deficiency in our culture has been rectified.

The underused word that concerns me is squall. How can we live in a place like Alberta and not hear the word squall 3 times a day before 9 am. Come on people ... it's a word tailor made to describe Alberta weather.

"I was bent over tying my shoes when all of a sudden a squall came out of nowhere and blew a pound of sleet down my butt crack."

Who hasn't had that happen to them? But do we ever hear the word squall? No.

Being sick sucks. Although now I don't feel as bad about skipping school.

Well, maybe we could start a all-things-poo-related thread: "The Tao of Poo". There does seem to be an odd fascination with the subject amongst a certain subsection of the forum.

Why do people keep asking what are the symptoms of swine flu? A flu is a flu and will always be a flu.

Haven't most people had flu sometime in their life? Well, that is what swine flu feels like.

I don't know if you can call men a subsection...

Its funny, I haven't had a smoke since Sunday night at midnight (to frame this, I was a pack a day guy), I use a nicotine inhaler to get over some of the really bad urges, but I swear I'm getting high off of it.

I have a couple more days to go to get over the worst of it.

But the irratibility is on a biblical level. I was in a meeting this morning and had a strong urge to dive over the board room table and throttle the client when I didn't agree with a small technical point that he was trying to make.

I feel for ya, Cappy. I was never very nice when I was trying to quit. It's worth it, hope you friends and colleagues can put up with it for awhile.

They couldn't put up with me in the first place, I'm just driving nails into those relationships.

I have a friend who's trying to quit smoking, one who's trying to quit drinking and one who's trying to quit gambling. I'm not sure which of the three is hardest to quit. I'm trying to help each of them.

Thing is I do smoke, drink and gamble but only in moderation. I think I have the discipline right now and not get carried away and hope to never fall into the addiction level. I try to give them some advice but right now I'm just a person for them to complain to. I don't really know what to tell them.

The Tao of Pooh is a good book. I read it back in Junior High when I was interested in Taoism.

If you still smoke, you're hooked. Ozzy Osbourne, who is a pretty decent authority on addiction, once said that cigarettes were the toughest thing to get rid of. I have a friend who's been saying for the 10 years that I've known her that she's not addicted to nicotine.

I don't smoke at home. I only smoke when I go see my friends who smoke. If I don't see them for a week, I don't smoke for a week. Same with drinking.
Gambling might be the bigger of the 3 problems for me. Cause when I'm bored I'll bet on some stupid sporting event. I used to be really hooked on online poker but I've totally quit that.

After 16 years of smoking and numerous attempts of going "cold turkey" (and the temporary schizophrenic episodes that go with it) I finally read "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allan Carr.

I've been "clean" for 3 years. It just opens your eyes to the mind-screw tactics by cigarette companies to make you think it's hard to quit.

Works for some. Doesn't hurt to give it a try.
