2009 University Rankings - U of Calgary soars up the list
http://toronto.ctv.ca/servlet/an/loc...TorontoNewHome
Can't believe it hasn't been posted yet, but the U of C soared up the list from 170 to 149, beating out other Canadian universities such as UWO and SFU.
Link to the full list:
http://www.timeshighereducation.co.u...09-Top200.html
Interestingly, Calgary got one of the few 100% ratings on Citation/Staff scores.
Thoughts? I think it goes to show that we actually do have a premier university on our hands in this City, and I'm proud to be an alumni.
Now, I wonder where Mount Royal will sit on this list next year...
I kid I kid!!

Who cares? This is a hockey forum. and bragging about the UofC vs. Mt. Royal is like bragging about how your son is less ######ed than the ######ed kid down the street. Both schools are bush league as compared to many other institutions in this country.

Wrong forum, but I completely disagree with you. They are only bush league if you don't put any effort into the courses themselves and blame everyone else including the school for the crappy education you are getting.
I went there and had a great experience.

You deserve this:
Principal: Mr. Madison, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Billy Madison: Okay, a simple "wrong" would've done just fine.

Wow UofA made a huge leap into the top 60, there's some big-name U.S. colleges they're ahead of. Impressive.

The brutal thing about comparisons like this is it is tough to compare Universities straight up. One university could have one faculty which is the best in the world and another that is pretty bad. You can't see that in rankings like this.
U of C has lots of faculties, but this comparison won't tell you how good the School of Business is vs Queens or UWO, it won't tell you how good the Eng department is vs Waterloo, or the Medical School vs McMaster.
Comparing schools like this may tell you something, but I don't think it tells you where you should attend or how good a school might be.

A pretty ignorant statement considering the success of programs like engineering. Not to mention one of the best business schools in north america

Is this like the Macleans rankings where the more you co-operate the better you do or is there a little more objectivity to the rankings?
I guess it is good for making people feel good about their university scoring high on the list but considering that there are som many factors when it comes to universities it seems like a pretty futile endeavor to try and say school A is better than B overall.

I took political science and philosophy at the UofC and in comparison to many, I felt like I had some very top quality professors. No regrets about the UofC for my undergraduate.
The problem with the school is the absolutely ridiculous atmosphere of mediocrity and self-defeat promoted among students by the SU and The Gauntlet. The way the Administration treats its Faculty doesn't help either.

Cool. Having seen a lot of American educated students (from Madison, to Irvine, to Berkeley to even MIT) UofA and UofC produces some very good students, regardless of rankings.
