Default Issue with new PVR

I have used one of Shaws non pvr HD boxes for the past 1.5 yrs. Plugged it into my TV usimg composite cables. Digital picture fit the screen perfectly, HD as well. Only time I got letter boxing was during commercials on an HD channel.

I have recently picked up one of Shaws older Motorola HD PVR's and connected it to the same TV using HDMI. Now I can't get the pic to fit regardless as to wether or not its digital or HD. HD pictures are getting clipped all around. Even in just digital when you bring up the guide, half the bottom box is clipped.

I have tried playing with the picture size, I have: 16:9, 4:3, just scan and one other one I cant remember. Using the 16:9, 4:3 I get letter boxing regardless of what kind of channel I'm watching.

This is on a Samsung TV.

Is there some setting in the Motorola box itself that may help? I guess I could go back to composite to see if that helps but kinda like using HDMI when possible.

I think there may be a setting in the PVR setup... check there or go to motorola and download the manual for the PVR.

On my remote, there's a # button on the bottom right hand side. If you press that on my remote, the tv switches between 3 'fitting' settings. If that makes any sense. It's so I can easily watch in full screen (although stretched) if something isnt in HD.

Sounds simple and I doubt that's the issue, but maybe try that?

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Turn the PVR off and hit the Settings button on the front. Should give you a menu where you can set the TV type.

I assume the "thanks" means your problem is solved - it sounded to me to like you had your TV or shaw PVR "zoom" setting on...
