Default Semi Rollover — QEII Northbound at Hwy 72

FYI.

A section of northbound Hwy 2 north of Airdrie likely to be shut down for a few hours after a semi rolled at about 3 p.m. at the Hwy 72 overpass (Crossfield). Traffic being detoured onto Hwy72 and (I presume) to the 2A.

Will see delays if you're heading that way. I think they even have southbound down to 1 lane also near the area.

Yes, I'm aware there is an issue with my focus on the corners. Not sure if it's a broken lens or an issue/smudge on the lens or sensor. sigh.

Looks like the truck was coming down that on ramp onto the highway. So lucky that there weren't cars in those lanes. I can't imagine those pipes are light.

That is an impressive photograph... yikes!

Good thing nobody was seriously hurt, it seems. That's going to ruin the drive north of Airdrie for everybody though, wow.

Uh Oh. Edmonton will have to wait a few more days before running water comes to their city. They've gone this long without showering I guess...

Judging by what's going on here in the City of Calgary, I'm guessing it was a wind gust that caused this one.

BTW: Awesome photo.

I take that road very often. My sister said she saw it while coming home (southbound).

I only have her description to go by because that photo is just terribly out of focus, I can barely make out the colours. :/

I hate driving next to semi trucks because of this reason. I am constantly paranoid that they are going to lose their load, and it's going to smash into my car. I don't trust truckers to have properly secured their load.

LOL, well I don't white knuckle drive past these guys, I just try to avoid staying behind or beside them as much as I possibly can.

There are 12 pipes. This means that they were loaded up square instead of in a pyramid. The debris on the ground is likely pieces of wood to hold the pipes in place for loading and transport.
As Meth already reminded us, it was windy as hell yesterday, especially around that time, and since the wind was out of the north, it's reasonable to assume that as the driver came around that off ramp, the wind either dislodged the pipes from what was holding them in place and caused the load to shift dramatically, as it came around the final bend with a direct cross wind, or else the wind got into the pipes as it was getting out of the cross wind and turning head on into it and knocked the truck over by sheer force.

I think this is one accident where I'll give the driver the benefit of the doubt until I hear otherwise.

Thanks for the pic, Jayems.

That's some good math skills detective.

Chalk up another win for 4x4 and Mathnet.
