I am not so sure that the Big 12 and SEC are that much better.
They have Florida and a rotating good team and Texas and Oklahoma and a rotating overrated team.

Meh... the group of borderline conferences produce some an ankle biter team or two every year. I still hold Oklahoma responsible for giving these one trick pony schools life by falling to Boise State and their stupid bag of tricks.
Anyways, it's partially in jest because Michigan did a pretty good job of breathing life into the movement a couple years ago.

Good point , I was gonna ask Clever why he would blame Oklahoma when he is a fan of a conference that consist of USC and the rest is pretty much a mid major conference. However it is true that even the big conferences only have 2 or 3 great teams.
and CleverIggy on the Boise state game, It took two trick plays ran to perfection to beat Oklahoma. Thats a chance I am willing to take again. The stars aligned that night for them and good for Boise. They didnt beat us because they were the better team. It was their night , just like App St had their day against Mich, Oreg St had theirs againsr USC last year.

Garbage.
Boise St. led that football game from about 4-5 minutes in until about 1 minute left in regulation (needing a 2-point conversion to tie anyways). They were in that football game from start to finish and were the better team for the first 3 quarters.
Boise St. led that game 28-10 midway through the 3rd quarter. If they lost it would've been more a case of them not closing out a football game than OU simply being a better team.

Like I said ... it was their night... Oregon state was leading USC 21-0 at half last year and hung on to win.... Does that mean Oregon State was a better team than USC last year? I think we both know that they werent. Same thing as the Boise St Game

It still happened. I give USC and any other major program that lost to any team in a respectable conference a pass only in this aspect (the aspect being, losing to smaller conferences). Michigan and Oklahoma lost to teams that they could out recruit them in their sleep. There is no excuse.
The upside is that there's significant ammunition to pelt both schools with (bringing up the 55-10 USC trouncing was getting too easy)... the downside is every playoff or small conference proponent wants their air time and now they have actual proof that certain big schools can fall asleep at the wheel when playing graduated JuCo programs (especially App. State).

I'm stoked for the UT vs. Georgia game on Saturday. Wake up Saturday morning in Cookeville, TN, arrive in Knoxville for tailgating at 9 AM, hit the box in Neyland and watch the Vols beat the crap out of the Dogs. I have $50 on the Vols to cover -3.

I've heard UT games are unreal. Have you been before? Post how it went when you get back, I'd like to hear. I'm planning a trip next year and think UT is a must.

I'm planning on taking some pics, so I'll post those when I get back. I went to the UT/Vandebilt game last year, but that was at Vanderbilt Stadium, which holds just under 40,000 people. Neyland Stadium in Knoxville has a capacity of over 100,000. I believe it will be sold out this Saturday.

when given over a month to prepare...the better TEAM won. completely different than comparing a conference rivalry game within a schedule to a bigtime bowl game. there is more to a team than just the athletes...cohesion, preperation, coaching, ect.

Nickerjones, I know you are a big OU fan but it wasn't like they dominated Boise State. I'm sorry but I can't figure out how OU is still ranked this year. Usually you need to beat someone to be ranked and I am not think Idaho is a big enough someone. They lost to the 3rd best MWC team and BYU was missing most of it's O-line so don't bring up injuries or experience. Miami won't win their conference either but they are a quality team.
That being said I can't fault someone for defending their team to the death. We are all fans and that is what makes these discussions fun so don't stop.

They are still ranked because with Bradford they are easily a top 15, if not top 10 team.
BYU missing some average O-Linemen doesn't come close to losing the best player in College football.

The best player in college football doesn't play for Oklahoma. Being the best NFL QB prospect doesn't equate to being the best player in college football.

Winning the Heisman Trophy equates to being the best player in college football though.

Except that it's generally biased towards offensive players.

Okay who is a defensive player that was better than Bradford last season?
I think the award is biased towards QB's and RB's but that is because they are the ones that can help their teams win the most.

The difference is Oregon St. lost 4 games last year and that game was played in October or early November. Boise St was undefeated (regardless of who they played) and they beat OU in a a BCS bowl game.
In BCS bowl games (along with the Super Bowl) it's always a case of the winner is the better team. I mean, Ohio State was the best team in the country the last two times they played in the National Championship (going into the game anyways), but they lost. I've never heard a Buckeye fan saying they were the best team, but it just wasn't their day.
