Well there's not a "this team beat this other team" setting in the computer rankings.

As I said before, computer rankings are designed for a whole season of play. Weird anomalies like this will happen when you look at them after 4 weeks.

Ya I just read an article where the doctor said the reason he's alive right now is due to having a thick, muscular neck which helped keep his windpipe intact. Apparently his throat was almost completely flat though, ugh. I can't even imagine.

Word is he may even be able to make a full recovery, though obviously this year's out of the question. They also don't know if he'll ever be able to speak again. Just a crazy situation.

Just to be clear, the doctors don't know when he'll be able to speak again, but are expecting him to make a full recovery. Therefore, him speaking again is a "when" thing not an "if" thing... or at least that's how I read it.

I'm glad he's okay.

I didn't mean to imply that the spotter was at fault yesterday.

What I guess I was trying to say is that the spotter wouldn't have had his hands under the bar ready to catch it like he would had it been a heavier/max weight type of situation.

Glad to see the surgery was successful, hoping for a full recovery.

Yup, and to add to that, before the computer has a large enough sample of data, the pre-season rankings still have some weight. Within a couple weeks probably, the stats will become 'well connected', meaning that the pre-season rankings are taken completely out of the equation. You really need to look at it with a fine-tooth comb to get meaning out of it this early; how teams move compared to their pre-season ranking is statistically significant. Oklahoma is a good example: a loss to a 22nd ranked team and then wins over much lower ranked teams isn't impressive, the whole Big 12 is suffering in the Sagarin's ratings; they aren't going to be able to improve much through conference play. Which makes their upcoming game against Miami important not only for themselves but for the entire conference.

On a different note, I'm a bit disappointed that Oregon is considering reinstating Blount. While I thought the original sentence was a bit harsh, I don't like the fact Oregon is going back and revising it. And I guess I'm not convinced that Blount is a massive upgrade over James; not enough of an upgrade to justify the potential distraction.

College football is such a trip.

Virginia, literally one of the worst teams in the country early this season, is in chapel Hill and beating NC 9-3 with 8 minutes+ left.

Arkansas St. is hanging with Iowa.

Va Tech is barely beating Duke (maybe the WORST D1 team in the nation) 20-16.

Just bizzaro world in these early games

Michigan is a lot better than they were, but they are no where near being a good team yet. Forcier is unreal for sure, but that offense will take another year to really come together.

They have a tough schedule the rest of the way as well...at Iowa, home to a cream puff, home to Penn St., at Illinois, at Wisconsin, and home to Ohio State.

they lose at least 4 of those IMO.

I only watched OT so I will comment on that:

The INT in OT was a fluke. Probably not a pass that Forcier should have thrown but it was a lucky bounce for MSU that caused it.

The TD in OT for MSU was brutal tackling by Michigan. MSU was likely in FG range anyways but the RB should have been tackled for a gain of about 3-5 yards.

Pretty much. Michigan St was clearly the better team today.

I would've went for 2 at the end if I was Michigan. When you get outplayed like that all game it generally trends into OT. As we just saw, that was true today.

Forcier got away with at least two passes on the last two drives that should have been picked off. The law of averages came into effect and he finally ended up paying.

That kid will be a player forsure.
