Might I ask why you aren't just cutting a 38.8 degree angle on the bottom edge, then measuring the length of 46.23" and cutting a 51.2 degree cut on the top edge?

a) I have no idea what you're talking about.
b) I doubt I have the tools to pull that off.

Just so we're on the same page... with my mad photoshop skills... to better explain the width...

So what am I going with?

In this case you should measure it to be 27.29 inches based on my updated calculations

Here goes nothing.

i used Illustrator and created your triangle. then a 9.25 plank...measured it and got that.

your smaller triangle is about 17 X 21.5

well, i keep getting around the same number with 9.25 width

27.425

boo got 27.29

Edit: yes, ^^^ go with the Boo's math

Trying to figure out the short side so I can measure that out, and make my cuts so that the one side is flush with the deck, and the other is flush with the ground.

Any ideas?

This might just fall into the "dumb blonde" question category...and I know you have it figured out...but...

With dimensions this small couldn't you just draw it out with chalk on the driveway and simply measure your missing length?

No...

Things I also could have tried:
- Cutting 100 times until I got the right fit.
- Calling Mike Holmes.
- Asking a Habs fan, cause they're all about shorter lines.

The stairs are done... who cares what I could have or couldn't have done. I appreciated the help I got.

I'm sure if I didn't have them done, and I didn't post, one of my friends would have said "Couldn't you have posted it on CP, and get one of those 50-year old nerds who live in their parents basement to figure it out for you?"

If I had seen this thread earlier I could've drawn it up in CAD for you and posted it as a PDF.

I am glad only one of those is correct...
