HIIT is 'interval' training, where you go all out for 30 sec, and recover. All out...recover. Repeat 20x. Or, you do something like breathing squats to really elevate your HR. You're in great shape as is, so to truly activate EPOC, you have to work that much harder than the normal guy.
I ran some tests the other day too, although my HR monitor might not have been accurate.
With breathing squats, 3 sets of 30x200#, AHR was 187, MHR was 194.
40 min after, my pulse was still around 95bpm.
2 hours after, my pulse was 75bpm.
RHR is around 60 right now.
Which means I activated EPOC.
HIIT isn't easy to do. I've attempted numerous times to get my HR up above 185, and I fail with everything else besides breathing squats. I guess using such a large muscle group increases the requirement for oxygen and blood by that much more.

Like I said, I'll try it on my next intense weights and check everything out. 180bpm is the highest I've seen my HR. Those are also the fastest runs I've done, I don't think there's anything left in the tank at my current ability/level/speed, if I had gotten it up more it would have mean failure at the speeds I was trying to maintain.
Not really arguing it or trying to disprove, just bouncing tests around. I believed it and still. . . We'll see

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean.
Maybe do some 30sec sprint intervals. Hit it for 30sec, rest for 30, hit it for 30sec, rest for 30.
But, you have to go completely all out in those 30sec. So much all out that you can't go on anymore.
Or something.
HIIT is to subjective a 'method' to apply a broad standard to everyone that trains.

Sooooo, i'm starting P90x again today. Yaaa! I think this will be the start of my 3rd full time through. I just didn't have enough time over the past couple months to commit to it. But I should have the time to now since things have settled down a bit. But I will be moving at the end of September, so that could get in the way. Then I have to find a place to do p90x in my new apartment. May have to buy one of those chin up bars for a doorway since I won't have the same setup I do now.
I'm getting back on the diet plan as well. Started with a few egg whites this morning and I was starving by the time I got to work. I think I need about 12 egg whites in one meal to not make me hungry. Maybe I should just eat the yokes as well.
Can't wait to start again. I hate it when i'm not working out. I feel like junk. I walk a little taller when I work out. It definetly helps on the confidence when you feel good.

I picked up my copy at London Drugs for $120 I think. You then need equipment if you don't own that already.

I just ordered my dvd's on ebay. Now what else will I need? I think I read resistance bands, chin up bar and supplements are options to buy off the website. Is there somewhere to get a supplement similar or do I need them at all?

I found this on another forum. Though it was funny:

I'm just starting this program so I read through this topic, checking out peoples thoughts and ideas. But I'm still wanting to try P90x Recovery Drink. Is there anywhere in Calgary that sells P90x Supplements and Shakes?

I think the cheapest place to buy is from their website. I've never seen p90x in a store locally.
A similar product is called Endurox R4 which can be bought at GNC and those type of stores, however it's about $70 for 30 servings with club discount.
I highly recommend a recovery drink, be it P90x or Endurox. I can definitely tell a difference. Feel so much better the next day after working out. No soreness or stiffness. I drink a recovery drink while I play hockey as well. It's got 270 calories per serving in it, so it gives me an extra boost of energy because I skate pretty hard.

I bought the Endurox R4, your right - it's pretty steep. I'll probably order the rest off the site.

when you look at the big picture though there are people that pound red bulls and $6 protein shakes with every workout. I'd much rather spend $70 for 30 servings of something that is actually going to help my body.
And, since you're saving money by not having a guy membership, can put a few dollars towards this.

How important is it to stick to the diet? I'm going to try to eat some of the meals in the guide and make a consious effort to eat small portions and healthy snacks. Also could you get by with chocolate milk as a recovery drink?

You can certainly get by with chocolate milk.
As for the diet.....80-90% of the equation is based around diet.
Oh, and in case I never said it before, if you're not taking Omega3s, go to the store and by a case full, NOW.
I take up to 20 per day right now.

I just finished my 6th week and so far have lost 25 lbs - sticking to the diet has been key so far, there's no way I lose that much with just exercise
