Default Big red cloud over the mountains

Anyone know what this is? Looks like forest fire smoke, but it's big and growing by the moment. I'm up in the NW and called my mom in the south and she said it doesn't look too bad there. Wondering what the CP brain trust can figure out.

There is a controlled burn in the Spray Valley around Three Sisters. This explains all the smoke!

This was the view in my city yesterday. Blech. Dust storms suck koala balls.

I know that thing in your sig is supposed to be a peanut, but for some reason it really disturbs me. Just....uncomfortable.

This was Airdrie at about 6pm before it really got in the area. By 7, the whole area was one big smoke fest. I literally just stopped on the side of the highway, so no points for composition (or proper focus, for that matter).

Good picture! The colour was really something though, a red like you'd see at sunset / rise, but only within the cloud. From my perspective it looked like it was coming from behind the mountains, that's when I thought there could be real trouble in BC brewing! Still smells like smoke outside - reminds me of the pulp mill in PG, yech.

Lots of smoke in Kananaskis when we got off the river today. Looked like it was strongest...southwestish of Heart Creek? Maybe Spray Lakes. Canmore was still pretty clear. If that's a controlled burn, it's a big one. Hella big.

I'm used to weird smells in Edmonton, but we're getting this smoke smell as well.
