IMO the biggest mistake Hitler made was not telling his allie the Japanese to hold off attacking the US. Most people think it was attacking Russia but lots of Russian states initially were willing to collaborate with the Germans but when the mighty USA got involved they had second thoughts.
I think Hitler would have had Britain within a year if not for the US joining the war.

I'm watching these as well. Caught the first one last week. It was excellent.
I'm sure a lot of the footage is probably colourized, but it definitely brings a different aspect to the film. We're so used to seeing the black and white. Seeing it in colour just gives it another dimension. Allows us to connect with it better I think.

Even though I caught it the first time around, you can't help but to watch this stuff over and over again.
Any idea when the new Band of Brothers is coming out?

I read a book that claimed British Intelligence started feeding information into the German command on how weak Russia was, how vast their reserves were and what it could do to the German war effort, and most importantly, how Russia would eventually build up enough military might to turn against Germany
Basicially, the British were hoping to sell Germany into opening up another front, and divert a proportion of their forces from the Western front. Neat stuff

I believe "The Pacific" is supposed to be March 2010 in the US. Not too far off!
Looks like there was a new trailer released yesterday:

Some of the intelligence stories from WWII are really interesting
The aptly named operation mincemeat

I've always thought it was cool that Hitler's Germany actually invented magnetic tape, which would go on to change the way music was recorded. In the war, it was used to broadcast speeches that the British thought Hitler was making live. This way they could never tell exactly where he was.

On the topic of WWII intelligence, two weeks ago the British government made an official apology for its mistreatment of Enigma-codebreaker and computer science pioneer Alan Turing.
In the 1950s, Turing was found guilty of the "crime" of being a homosexual, had his security clearance revoked, and was sentenced to chemical castration. He killed himself two years later.

I wish I would have noticed this thread earlier. Damn work getting in the way...
I caught a documentary on CBC Monday night called The Nazi King about Edward VIII's (and his wife Wallace Simpson's) support for Nazi Germany, his abdication and his exile. It was quite interesting.

Also isn't alot of the stuff in medical text books nowadays taken from human experiments performed by the Nazi's?
