License suspended
Hey guys.
I received a notice today that my license will be suspended from Oct 3rd to Nov 3. I am a pretty safe driver who sometimes only slightly rebels against the government speed limits.
Last year I got a ticket for going 122 in a 100 zone on highway 9 near Strathmore. On Aug 1st I got a ticket for going about 30 K over in Calgary (hey, I was just going with the traffic! I swear! ). According to the alberta government website, that amounts to 7 points, and since I am on the GDL, I can have up to 8 points. I lost my second ticket, and after searching for it, I just left it until I got a late notice. I did not think it was a big deal, I would just pay the late fee. Eventually I did get it back, then just left the letter on my desk and basically neglected it until now. I paid 22 days after the court date.
After googling, I found that my license could have been suspended because it was not paid within 15 days of the court date. I tried calling the government, but they are closed right now.
Am I hooped? Should I just make arrangements for transportation? Or is there a chance I could get them to just make me take a driving course or something in place of the suspension?
I dont really want to take this to court or anything, I would rather just suck it up and surrender my license.

Serves you right for not getting off GDL! It took me 2 years but I did it and it's to avoid situations like this.
You could probably take it to court and have the demerits taken off. They're usually pretty lenient seeing you weren't doing excessive speeds... or there is something you're not telling us

I first got my license around May-ish 2008. I am not sure what I could be leaving out. I have never had any 'run-ins' with the law in the past, nor do I recreationally or otherwise get inebriated.

What's GDL?
Other than that... not paying your tickets on time doesn't sound like such a big deal to me? I'm actually surprised they can suspend your license for two tickets.

I went to a theatre in Kensington last Wednesday, I payed for 2 hours but stayed about 2.5 hours. Could they have caught me without me realizing it?

I'll save someone else the trouble:
Stop complaining and just pay the ticket, ya loser. People like you are pathetic. Grow up already, sheesh.
For anyone wondering what I'm talking about please check out any thread that has ever been created that talks about speeding tickets.

Also for the record (and I know you were kidding), I am certainly not complaining about the tickets. I deserved them. I am just wondering if there is a way I could ask the government to put me through a course or something rather than have to serve the 1 month suspension.

Defensive driving courses remove two or three demerits, not sure how many. And I'm not sure if they work while on a GDL.
There's got to be some sort of government number you can call for clarification regarding your issue. There has to be a phone number on the notice you got, no?

Suspension may be ordered for a poor driving record (as discussed above), medical grounds, failure to pay a motor vehicle judgement and failure to pay an outstanding fine. The Board has the right to suspend a licence for any length of time. Before suspending a licence, the person is given 10 days notice and a chance to be heard in writing or in person, with or without a lawyer. In making its decision, the Board considers a number of things including the person’s driving record, driving attitude, driving skills, knowledge and any other important facts.

An informative read, which will probably help you out a little bit.

Watch your insurance rates go up. Those tickets are going to hurt a lot more than you think.
The above being said, good on you for owning up and taking responsibility for your actions.

I don't think he's an ahole. Just some kind of technically challenged anti-climactic. He could of at least disguised the link.

Seems fitting that you should lose your license.
You got a ticket and then were stupid enough to do it again in about a year. 30km over... Seems like you could kill someone.

This kid in my class got clocked doing 144 in 80 zone. If this guy gets one more ticket he loses his license for a year.
