yeah, the boost pack seems to be a pretty good deal really. i think once we are able to get our pro cards after 20 games, it will really start to even back up. i feel if you take a bit of time and look at how to unlock the really beneficial stuff, it isn't as bad. there's a lot of stuff you can get in a few hours of playing. obviously its not legit playing as its easiest to do by making the game easy and scoring tons of points, but at least it saves you from spending money.

I'd also like to try again this season. I've got a new router and I'm actually wired this year, so the lag (hopefully) won't put me off!

Things that make the game stall and lose connection to the ea servers:
-using the PS button to check messages/chat room/friends list
-muting and unmuting the official sony headset really quickly

i hate to be a jerk here, but i think this needs said...
having all these new people just jump on the team scares me. i thought the point of having 2 teams was so that the main team could make a run at some titles... yet we seem to once again be a totally open ended team... so far the only people that have wanted to do the casual team are the people that don't play that much. judging by their 0 games played, the team isn't even necessary.
i kind of saw the second team as a place where people could go to figure things out, level up their guy, have some fun, etc. seems like we just have 1 huge team like last year...
maybe i am way off base though.

Agreed. I think if you were on the team last year and played pretty regular, you should be on the pro team. Everyone thats new, should start on the casual team and work there way up.

Yea, I don't really wanna sound like a jerk either, but it's a valid point. I thought we'd have 2 full teams.
Side note, did the EA website stop counting our games again? We haven't "played" since 2pm, which is total BS.

At the end of next week I plan to put this two team system into full effect. Seeing we just got the game some are still adjusting or haven't gotten to really playing the game yet. It's basically training camp and at weeks end new players and those that GMs feel need to work on there game will be put on the AHL team since we do want to make a run in being a competitive team.

There was so much talk before the game came out of using the points and spreading the puck around, but from what I've seen we are exactly the same as we were in 09. Against 2 and 3 man teams you can win by generating all your offense down low and off the rush, but unless we play more of a team game we are never going to beat the top teams. Also IMO this game just isn't much fun if you are never getting the puck passed to you.

I've never done the whole online thing really, so I dunno what the hell is going on. I think I'm on the Motherpuckers...and hell I'll play whoever when I'm online.

I'm gonna create a 2nd account and join the farm team so I can practice goalie and my player. Hopefully in the next week or so the Puckers can start up because they haven't played at all.
PS. Last night goalie was bruuuutal.

At the same time we don't want to abandon the down low play if it's producing goals for us. Primarily we should be a down low team since it's a very effective way to get goals. However against top teams they will be good a stopping those and then we just end up giving the puck away of shooting into blocked bodies in the slot.
But we also have to be sure our pucks going to the point to end up just getting block when a pass to the other defender, down low, and any other player was open for a makeable pass for players. I think our who passing game still could use some work in quickness because there are times that a pass may have been a better option then the a shot from the point, or into the blocked slot, where a man was wide open to help generate a better scoring opportunity.
We gotta keep our eyes open and get the puck moving around by good passing because it opens up the defense and gives us wide open shooting lanes from down low, side boards, and points. Especially for the PP. Shots are fine and all, but quality is very important and we gotta have patience's in the zone rather then just shooting where it just ends up killing a possible chance we could've developed if we move the puck around more.
This along with our dump and chase game which we need to work on using more frequently when we're trapped in the netural zone or on an rush with a opposing player on top of us. I think in cases where we are trapped in the zone if we can't get a nway to walk in the puck should be given to the defender or the puck carrier wheels back so he can dump it from the red line and give players speed near the blue a chance to hit the line with speed to chase the puck.

And all this is moot if we have 22 players on the team because there are so many different team combinations that we'll never develop chemistry with anyone to be able to play this sort of game. Let's get the squad sorted first, then work on the team-play. A good example is this: I can slap dump the puck from the right wing, but the left wing isn't usually hitting the line at speed on the left boards. In most cases, the left winger has drifted into centre ice. We don't have a chance of running this type of play consistently if the team hasn't bought into the 'system'. It's easier to have 12 people buy into a system than 22.

Sorry boys, but I'm quickly realizing that I have very little free time and I've decided to devote all my NHL gaming time to my dynasty. My kid comes in November so I have a funny feeling I'll have even less time to play then. For that reason I must regrettably pull out (hey that's how I got into this mess in the first place!).

Agreed with Chuck.
I have a pretty good idea what he is going to do with the puck, and where he is going to be, and think that we have some decent chemistry together, even if I can't bury it (or do a drop pass in the defensive end in the slot for the game winner against in OT...).
Playing centre/left wing with him, dobbles and merc, and playing separately with koop for consecutive games really helped me find chemistry with them.
Even though my mic wasn't charged and I couldn't verbally communicate with him, I thought Dobbles and I started to get into a very good rhythm about covering the point for him as he was joining the rush, and we generated some solid chances out of it. More importantly though, we negated a lot of the opposition's offense by stifling them with positional play.
The dump was pretty effective, but I think we all need to make up our minds faster about what we are going to do with it. I appreciate the skill you guys bring, and it certainly results in offense, but I am a simple man, and play a simple game. If we hold it hold it hold it and then go 'dumping it in', well, the other winger has probably lost his speed by cutting in not wanting to go offside. Things like that.
I also think the point's could be utilized more effectively, and that is coming from someone who was playing centre.
Then again, I also have Tanguay-itis.
