I know its a little late considering this album dropped in July but Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros are going to be huge in this next year. Their debut album (Up From Below/Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros) highlights...
On their recently released debut LP, Up From Below, Ebert channels his psychedelic tendencies into tunes that are alternately joyful ("Janglin," "Home"), jaunty ("40 Day Dream") and gothic ("Desert Song"), with echoes of the Arcade Fire and the Mamas and the Papas. Ebert attributes their sound to a conscious effort on his part to connect with his most childlike musical impulses.
This is not the average new release. It's uplifting, it's creative and it's full of energy. It has just the right mix of mellow songs, joyful sing-a-longs and tracks that are somehow strange but familiar. The style of music on this new album is becoming increasingly popular, it's feel good music. Listen to it and feel good.
These guys have gotten non-stop play time from me and I can't get enough of them. They're fresh, they're unique, and they're just fun to listen to. Highly recommended.
It's a solid album that shows off the individual members' songwriting skills and holds together very well as a display of smart and savvy modern pop. If you're looking for the old Clean, you might be disappointed, but if you are looking for good Clean, Mister Pop will be just what you need.
No single released yet but I will update as it comes in..

I've listened to it once through and it's pure awesomeness. Any hardcore PJ fans will be extremely pleased with this effort. Probably their most melodic and radio friendly stuff since vs.

The new Muse album is pretty solid. They're one of the few bands that release a solid disc everytime. Rammstein and Breaking Benjamin are also in line with that. Killswitch Engage WERE until this last one. Ick...
That Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic zeroes are pretty awesome. It's good stuff. Nice and light. And catchy.

Reason: Needed to comment on Eddy Sharpe
I'm listening to the new Muse album right now. It's OK. Pretty par for the course. It doesn't really go anywhere for me though. So I rate it a solid meh.
The new Brand New album Daisy on the other hand.. OMFG LET ME BATHE IN THE GOODNESS!! So good!

How did you hear it? Leaked?
I'm pretty excited for it. Only heard the Fixer and Supersonic so far. Sounds like more of a fun record for them. New album, and then I get to see them live the same week, should be awesome.

Torrents. I'll buy it for sure so I didn't feel bad. The first half is probably as aggressive as they've opened an album to date.
It is definitely a fun album. What you've heard so far is a good representation of the aggressive tracks. It's a happier aggressiveness... as upbeat as I've heard Eddie's lyrics in a LONG time.
Early highlights are 'Unthought known', 'Amongst the Waves', 'just breathe' and 'Got Some'.
The new Q-Tip, Kamaal the Abstract, was released this week. I really like the album so far. It has a lot of blues/jazz influences in it. There are a ton of instrumental areas that really help develop the flow of the album, making it very laid back/chilled. It is a very cohesive package that listens like a book should read. Tips' rhymes are good as always although the songs are built not just around his rhymes but also the musical accompaniments. He also makes a stab at singing ala Mos Def which seems to have worked out alright.
Been listening to Japandroids "Post-Nothing" for the last month or so and it is a great EP!! Can't believe it isn't in for the Polaris prize but likely because its an ep?
Last week, we told you that the Flaming Lips would appear in all their splendor on "The Colbert Report". Last night, that meeting of the minds happened. Stephen Colbert interviewed frontman Wayne Coyne, needling him for the "downer" lyrics to "Do You Realize??" and offering such faux-conservative gems as: "It's sounds to me, when I listen to your music, like you're trying to expand my mind. And I don't change my mind for anyone." For his part, Coyne pulled off the Herculean feat of somehow coming across as sincere and affable on in the presence of Stephen Colbert.
After the interview, the band played a fiery, noised-up rendition of the new psych jam "Convinced of the Hex", from the Lips' forthcoming album Embryonic. You can watch the interview here and the performance here.
Now that the show's on the books, the Colbert Nation website is streaming Embryonic in its entirety. The album will remain on the site until next Monday.
