I dont think you can jump to conclusions until a team has played two division games.

As for the bears fake punt - It didnt look like the called play, but an on the field audible to catch the packers in a penalty. The long snapper is a captain (and 34 years old) so I assume the call was all on him. Garrett Wolfe seemed pretty shocked to get the ball and thinking too much on his feet. I dont think Lovie is a great coach but I dont think that call was on him. For this kind of play too much adulation goes to the coaches if it works and too much blame if it doesnt.

Cutler has started 38 games since becoming a starter in the '06 season; he passed for 4500+ yards last year.

I think he has proven lots.

Now I'm not a huge Cutler fan, but to treat him like a rookie is crap.

Offside for what? It's 4th and 11. If they catch the Packers offside then it's 4th and 6.. they punt anyways.

Why is a center even allowed to audible? Good coaches don't allow their players to be stupid in a close game on their own 25 yard line.

He has proven that he is a baby who sulks on the sidelines and call out his defense when they dont play well... even though he throws stupid interceptions with the "strongest arm" ever... he is a mental midget. Has all the tools just not the toolbox...

I wasn't referring to the 38 points. I was referring to the way they used Flacco. The offense was far more dynamic and robust yesterday.

I think Baltimore's offence could be pretty good this year. Flacco has a good arm, and they have a really good line in front of him. Than combine that with the defence he has getting other teams off the field in 3-7 plays on most drives and that will allow the Ravens to probably rack up some serious 4th quarter points this year. I know they lack the marquee go to receiver, but in the 4th quarter when the other defence is gassed, they can't cover anyone when Flacco's sitting back there with lots of time to make the throw.

I never really understood this point of view - shouldn't the offence be equally as gassed as the defence, if they both have been on the field a lot? I would think they both are expending the same energy.

I played both offense and defense in high school. I found myself significantly more exhausted after a defensive series than an offensive series. Also, in the pros (CFL/NFL, even college), you see a lot more rotation of DLineman and sometimes LBers on and off the field to keep them fresh. You don't see that at all with offenses.

I don't know why, but I think defenses end up getting gassed a lot quicker than offenses.

Offense:

Linemen hold their ground and block
Receivers run a pattern and know where they're going.

Defense:

Linemen have to rush continuously.
Secondary have to cover space and run all over the place.

Defense is always more tired. In sports like hockey and soccer too, the team with the ball/puck is less tired then the team without it.

Offence knows where they're going on every play, defence is reacting. Plus offences can rotate in fresh running backs and receivers. In order to stay fresh the defence is forced to put out inferior safety's or corners to keep up. Offensive lineman also don't have to worry about trying to go 7 yards deep on every play or have to release and chase down a ball carrier like a defensive lineman does. It's a bit like being on the PK in hockey verses being on the PP.

They had to get someone...mcCown is out and their 3rd stringer is not an NFL level QB...period.

If Delhomme doesnt get this thing turned around, and I mean right away, Carolina will spiral into one of those 2 or 3 win teams and that will be the end for John Fox.

I will call it right now...Bill Cowher will be the Panthers coach next year. Already resides in NC with his family, (2 1/2 hr drive) and is perfect for a team trying to get an identity. Also Jerry richardson is a big fan.

Well one has already graduated Princeton IIRC, the other started at NC ST a couple years ago and i think the youngest started either at NC or NC St or Duke this year....but not sure why i think i know that so i may be getting them confused with someone else.

You'd think Garcia would sign in Carolina seeing as he'd probably start, and stay the starter all season. And the fact that the Eagles baisically threw him away the last time around.

But I guess the Eagles are the better team, and at this point, it should be all about winning for Garcia.

I was surprised how much they threw the ball. In the first quarter it looked like they couldn't be stopped. It did help that the Chiefs put zero pressure on Flacco. The Chiefs have a tendancy to make QB's and O-lines look good. The Ravens put up over 500 yards.
