Epic and ugly meltdown by Serena...yikes.
I wonder if the WTF (or whatever federation controls all that) suspends her for a chunk of time?

Um...that tirade was brutal. "I'm going to shove this ball down your F*****g throat"? that is inexcusable, even if it was close, she likely did foot fault...she's been doing it all tournament. just embarassing for Serena and her post match presser just made her look worse. got to exercise a little bit of professionalism.

I am not saying it is okay what she did but they let these foot faults go in every tournament in late stages of matches. It is almost like off-sides in hockey where most of the time when it is close they let it slide a bit.
She just showed everyone in the world what kind of class she has. I would have had no problem with her arguing with the ump but the fact she was screaming and swearing is not cool with the amount of children that were in the stands and watching on TV. Great role model for your kids!

Dang, I missed that melt down.
Looks like no Nadal/Federer final like everyone wanted though.
Juan Martin del Potro (6) def Rafael Nadal (3) 6-2 6-2 6-2
That sucks, I really wanted to see Federer beat Nadal in another epic grand slam final.

Federer beats Djokovic in straight sets: 7-6, 7-5, 7-5.
Did anyone see the 2nd last point of the match??? (at 6-5, 30-0 to make it 40-0)..........what an insane point and what a play by Federer!!!! He shot the ball between his legs for a winner as he was running back to the baseline from the net!
Federer vs Del Potro in the finals.
Both guys have been playing great. I say Federer wins in 5 sets as Del Potro has been on fire and will keep it close.

Williams just got fined $10,000 for the outburst/tirade...whatever you want to call it.
http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns
Mary Jo Fernandez was right though. Willaims should've been suspended. But because the Majors are not sanctioned by the WTA, it was an unlikely outcome.

$10K...I wonder if she will even have to write a check, probably just pull it out of her purse.

Pretty cool that Kim Clijsters comes back from retirement after having a daughter and wins the US Open. What was lost in the whole Serena tirade was that Clijsters was outplaying her and beating her fair and square before that call. So I say Clijsters deserves some props for what she did. Thats a pretty cool feat.

She absolutely does. To think she only wanted to play in this tourny as a "warm up". I'm so happy for her! Overall, a great finish to the women's draw of this year's US Open. Some great stories came out of it: Cljisters, Wozniacki, Oudin, Maria Sharpova coming back from her shoulder problem...etc. I'm glad that the Williams incident didn't overshadow an overall positive showing for the women.
2010 should be a good one. I've heard rumors that Justine Henin is going to try and make a comeback as well.

Yeah, it was an amazing point.
This tournament kind of redemed Djokovic for me. The guy has had his issues with his temper and attitude, but he had a lot of fun out there. It was really funny to see him playing Federer at the net for about 5 shots and finally giving up the point by bending over and pointing his arse right at Federer as Federer was about to hit the winner. Too funny.

I feel the same, definitely have a better frame of mind towards him, than I did prior to this match.

Serena and sister come right back and win the doubles. Personally that linesperson would never work again at a US Open. An unbelievably stupid call at that moment in time. It's about making cash--not nitpicky calls. I'd toss her out. At the same time Serena losing it like that should be hammered as that hurts the sport as well.
Dumb following dumb.
But she won like half a million bucks at least so I'm sure she is deeply upset LOL.

I knew Federer would win the final but he's making it look so easy! I thought it would go to 4 or 5 sets with the way del Potro had been playing.

Seems to happen with everyone not named Nadal.
Play lights out in the tournament then get to the final and lose to Federer
If Federer wins (and he's well on his way), he'll win 6 US Opens in a row beatng 6 different guys in the final (Hewitt, Agassi, Roddick, Djokovic, Murray and Del Potro)
