Yeah, I feel bad for her having to go through what I'm sure is a very difficult discovery on a very public stage. Hermaphrodism isn't particularly well understood in the western world, and I imagine (stereotyping a bit here and I have no idea what sort of culture she was brought up in) that in the sexually superstitious cultures of some parts of africa, this sort of condition would be treated pretty harshly.

You'd think that she would have figured it out when she didn't get a period her entire life.

Possible olmpic atheletes probably get pretty good medical attention.

A lot of professional athletes that are women don't have periods because of the rigorous training. Also, I believe that some hermaphrodites can have periods.

Chyna has a penis and they still let her compete against other women...
Maybe they're being too hard on this fella and should let ___ continue to compete against women.

That's kind of offside (along with other indefinite pronouns). She is self-identified as female, regardless of internal organs and is not an object or animal.

That said, it's not fair for her to compete against ovaried women - testosterone is a performance enhancing substance, whether produced naturally by a freak of birth or by injection. She should keep her medal but should not be allowed to train and compete with her current hormone levels.

Isn't that kind of a cop out? If she can't compete with women in the future then why should her past results against women count.

It's gotta be either or. She's either a woman with a medal, or not a woman without a medal.

Edit: IT depends what your definition of IT is

I am with Sid Seixero from the Score on this one. If it's true, then she will lose her medal, but why would you publish this report before anything is even close to being released by the people doing the testing?
Can you imagine what she is going through, and at 18? Leaking this early was just not necessary.

Sure. But no matter what I said someone was going to post a comment about it. If I say "she" someone makes a comment, if I say "he" someone makes a comment. I figured I was safe with "it" but I guess not.

Does this wonderful human being get to keep the medal or not?

Pretty sure the medals won't be stripped since they usually will only do that for cheating. Given the circumstances, I don't think this could count as cheating.

Cheating, maybe not. But how is this not competing outside of the rules?

Frankly I don't care what the ruling is, but the line must be drawn here. Either he/shes can compete as women or they can't.
