I have read accounts like this (previously subscribed but no longer) have been able to get beta keys. You might be the unlucky one that got properly updated though!

If you are playing on 32 bit windows be aware that this game installs a rootkit with its own administrator account.

It'll automatically shut down other software on your computer without asking you, cheats, and other normal software like antivirus and cd-rom emulators.

Sounds like a real winner.

This type of software is on pretty much every PC game created in the last 2 years (granted, this is one of the worst). I'm not saying that's cool or anything, but singling out this particular game isn't really fair. (Spore, anyone?)
I don't want to get into a whole pirating debate, but it is pretty amazing what length some developers will go to to stop pirating/cheating, just to have them hacked to hell in the end anyway.

In fact putting that kind of software in their games drives more people to actually go out and pirate the game to avoid the borderline malware! Though the actual # is pretty small. I did actually purchase a game and then download a pirated version to avoid the malware in the past though.

Game looks great for about 10 minutes then dies as GameGuard kills it for no reason.

Hm, updated my video drivers and disabled everything else and finally got it to run properly.
Got up to level 7 last night as a scout, pretty nice with lots of quests.
I won't buy this game for two reasons.. that GameGuard software, and the time sink; it's been years and years since I played WoW, didn't forgot how addictive it is, but re-learned it.

I've been having a lot of fun up to lvl 21.
I had to grind out all of lvl 13. It feels like they are missing a couple quests just to bridge the gap, but since then I haven't had to grind at all. I've been grouping a lot and crawling through the elite villages, farming bosses and stuff, and it was all a lot of fun.
I still haven't experienced any of the PvP yet, and I dont' think I'm going to have enough time to hit 25, but either way I'm at least going to be playing it for the first month after release.

Enjoying the game so far. Haven't done much other that run around in the starting area and first little town you are sent to. Game certainly has my interest. I really wished they had more then the 3 or 4 default voices, running around hearing the same voice yelling out over and over again is a tad annoying.
I'm certainly going to give this one a run, haven't looked forward to playing a game like this one since I first got into WoW.
It has some promise. I bought 3 months up front. If I'm not hooked by then I'll bail.
Batman gets unlocked on my PC in less than a week, that will fill in any holes in case Aion doesn't pan out.

i was actually planning to buy Spore since i wanted to try the interactive online stuff, but after reading about the copy protection crap i decided to pirate it instead. glad i did too, because i got bored of it after a few hours and haven't touched it since
i was almost getting interested in Aion due to the talk about it, but seeing that it has Gameguard killed anymore interest for me

Yeah, I can't really blame you or Photon. I have read that hacking MMO's is a national past time in much of Asia, so this type of software is pretty much a requirement....BUT, I don't think that installing a rootkit is the answer.
All of that aside, the game is really good so far. the first day or two were a disaster, but NCSoft has done a great job of getting rid of the lag. I am going to give it a month or two and see if I get into it.
Unfortunately, this game will gave to fight with NHL 10 for my affection.

I played in the open beta until about level 6. What was the highest you guys got to?
How does the game change at higher levels? I'm actually pretty interested in this one, but due to time and money I'll probably wait for a little while before deciding to give them my money.

Ya, I got to lvl 6 as well. Planned to keep going the last night of the beta but didn't realize that they were going to wipe the servers, when I found that out I turned it off as I really only had a couple more hours to play until they kicked us off.
Based on how things went in the first 6 lvls, 6 and above should be fun. Anyone know what the lvl cap is?

- After analyzing our open beta test results Aion will not feature GameGuard at launch. We will however continue to pursue ways to effectively utilize GameGuard within Aion in the future. Right now we're focused on providing players with the best possible Aion experience.

I hit 22 in open beta as a templar, and 18 as a sorceror in the last closed beta.
Frankly the game really has not changed as of yet. 1-10 goes by really fast, once you get familiar, it takes maybe 3 hours to do it. 11-20 however, takes a bit longer. I'd say about 15 hours of pure leveling (ie. no wasting time, no gathering, no crafting etc.)
The level curve does get steeper as you go, and there becomes a larger focus on group based leveling (via killing elite mobs for fun) and PvP in the Abyss.
The level cap is 50, and a lot of people are saying it'll take maybe a month of hardcore playing, or several months of casual play to reach that point. Even then, there is a large gear "grind" in order to max out your character. They are trying to put some focus back on the leveling game instead of having the game start at max level like others.

So who is playing? It's been out since Sunday.
I'm on Vaziel, with a few friends. It's a great game so far. I have a 13 Assasin, and a 10 chanter right now. Think I'll be levelling the chanter, its a lot of fun.

Been a while since anyone posted in this thread. Just curious as to how many are actually playing the game now? They are merging servers across NA to increase the populations on some of the more quiet ones, should be more interesting if not more dangerous now. I was on Yustiel up until last night and thought the amount of people was good. Lots of folks running around major towns, run into people occasionally when out and about. Ganked almost nightly so not sure if I'm wild about more of that happening now.
I've been enjoying the game. Play mainly as a Ranger but getting somewhat discouraged as to how hard it can be to solo with that class so I fired up a Gladiator. Much easier but that class has limitations too but seems like an can lvl much faster with a tank type class.
So? Who is playing? What server? Thoughts on the game and the latest update?
