Personally i am a warranty fan on cars for as long as you are going to keep it. Cumputers etc in todays cars are expensive to repair.

Question.

Leasing a 2007 SAAB 9-3. End of lease term the boyout is $19,000. WHich is due next year, July, 2010.

Do car companies ever knock down buyout amounts? As in if I return the car I dont see the company being able to sell the car for $19,000. Its fair market value should be lower.

Varies.. read the contract to see what it covers if it is not listed it is not covered. common sense i know but lots of people don't and think they have a full warranty when it only covers the power train etc.

Depends.... SAAB is disapearing in Canada so they might do something for you. but generally they are not that smart and will take it back and sell it at a bigger loss.

As an aside Used car prices are climbing like crazy right now.

I own a Cobalt and my buyout in the lease agreement is $9200 I believe. We phoned them to ask how much of a deal they could give us for an early buyout and they insulted us and said $10,700. My mom was so pissed she just said "ok, bye". My mom and a fellow co-worker who is 65 (knows his stuff), said to offer them $6,000.

Just from my experience with my family and friends, tell them to make you a deal. If they don't want to, walk away. Their loss. You can always come back and see it in the used section and deal then.

Also, from my experience with SAAB is this. When I went to the auto-show this year, I spoke to the guy and he was telling me how dealerships in Calgary were offering up to $15,000 cash back on purchases, etc. So a $50,000 car is now $35,000. So I am sure they will give you a good deal.

It was definitely worth it for us, because we had to do a bunch of significant repairs on our leased vehicle and they were pretty much free because of the extended warranty. Don't even want to think about how much it would have cost without it...

I have a question. We brought the ML in for service today and they told us at our mileage they recommend changing out the spark plugs and transmission fluid (all for the low low price of $700). We said no thanks.

When the lease is up in a year and we go to return the car, are we going to be forced to pay for these maintenance items?

It's a Toyota. I decided to go with them because the buying experience was incredible. Most other dealerships wouldn't even give me a price or denied sales on the websites etc..

Deciding between getting a 2010 Mazda 3 or a Jetta TDI. I'm aware of the pros and cons of both but at the end of the day, I'm wondering...will I regret getting a diesel? Yes they talk about "clean diesel" technology in the 09 TDIs but do you foresee problems down the road with them?

Sorry,

I should also ad the extra year of warranty is 1000 but includes 4 extra oil changes.

Seems to be quite comprehensive, the only thing is under "engine" all it has listed is Exhaust manifold.

The new diesel engines are great. I wouldn't be afraid of one at all.

I don't really have any experience with the new VW ones but so far our new MB Diesels have been great.

VW Diesels have had remarkably good resale value. I think that says a lot about a car.

It's the car I hope to get sometime in the future as a second car for our family.

He asked about warranty I said "If buying Japanese don't bother". Why buy warranty on something that won't break, or extended warranty. Maybe the extra comma through you off? I didn't mean don't buy Japanese, I mean don't buy extended warranty on them.
