Default 2009-10 Calgary Hitmen/WHL thread

Almost that time of year again...

And this year, we get to watch Reebok butcher WHL uniforms like they did NHL threads. Calgary's new jersey is set to be released in about an hour.

The Jerseys were already up on the CHL website early this morning:

A lot of those are pretty awful. Don't like Calgary's at all, though the white jersey will likely grow on me. Brandon is pitiful... the old wheat stalk striping at the waist was great!

Think I'll stick with my 10th anniversary grey.

I'm pretty sick and tired of the Flames organization's fetish for new jerseys. Every excuse there is for a new jersey they make one. Apparently there are two new other Hitmen jerseys on the way too. An original 1995 jersey to be released in honor of their 15th Anniversary and another pink one in support of breast cancer.

I'm all for any charity things they want to do so the breast cancer one is fine with me, but there's no reason for a new style for the regular jerseys.

Ummm, this has nothing to do with the Flames or the Hitmen. The entire league switched over to the new EDGE jerseys, it wasn't optional. Same goes for the Flames current jerseys. The Flames are also one of the last NHL teams to come out with a third jersey, so I don't really get the complaint.

Switching to Reebok's new "jersey system" does not require that the striping - or in the case of the white jersey, the logo, be changed.

I tend to agree with Cowboy. I'd be perfectly happy if the Flames and Hitmen kept the V base striping they had before. I will disagree on the 15th anniversary jersey though. So long as it is the Voorhees logo and not the starburst with crossed sticks, I am so getting one of the pink and grey jerseys if they are released.

Well they were going to be coming out with new jerseys regardless, so some changes in striping aren't really a big deal. The point is that the Hitmen/Flames didn't sit down and say 'hey, let's change jerseys again so we can suck some money out of peoples pockets'.

In 10 years the Flames will have worn 5 different jersey stylings:

Pedistal White/Red jersey
Black Horsehead jersey
Vintage 2004 Cup Run White/Red
RBK Edge Red/White
Vintage Red

Yes there are worse offenders than the Flames, but I'm still sick of them trotting out a new jersey every two years. The latest Edge jerseys for both the Flames and the Hitmen annoy me the most because they had fan favorite jerseys and decided that the RBK Edge switch was a good excuse to alter them enough that they look different enough. No one forced them to change and a lot of teams with good looking fan favorite jerseys in both leagues decided not to change theirs at all.

Actually RBK forced them to change, the 04 style wouldn't work with the EDGE jerseys. I really don't get how you can bitch that a team is responsible when the change is league wide on both occasions.

Yeah, actually, they do. But so does nearly everyone else. It's just another part of the business these days.

They sit down and change jersey designs so as to make more money.

This is most prevalent with third jersey designs, but a lot of teams (notably the Sharks) are famous for repeatedly changing their threads in a short time.

The Flames aren't any better in that regard, given how many times we've modified our jersies.

Well we all know that teams release new jerseys as a money maker, but this isn't that at all. This is a league wide change to a new design, so accusations That this is a cash grab by a particular team are completely ridiculous.

Any early indications on how your Hitmen will look this year? Competitive, rebuilding? What can we expect to see?

The Rebels should be quite a bit better, FINALLY, and should seriously challenge for a playoff spot at the very least. Looking forward to seeing a full season from Nugent-Hopkins. (5 points in the two exhibition games he's played.) I'm really liking the look of Dumba too. Pity he's only 15 as he's more than ready to play right now.

Who said anything about this being a cash grab?

got my tickets in the mail as well today! Cant wait for puckdrop! As for the jerseys, the white one will grow on me im sure. Also count me in for NO STARBURST! If they release the pink ones again ill definatly pick one up, many of my childhood hockey games were watching the hitmen and guys like Ray Shultz (heavyweight tough guy who was a defenseman for those who dont know who he is) in those pink jerseys.

Should be an interesting year for the Hitmen though, with a new head coach and alot of core players moving to the pro ranks a repeat of last year is very unlikely. Who knows though last year was a "rebuilding year" and look what happened.

What are peoples thought on the Hitmen O/A situation? If Broda comes back that leaves us with Gross, Macdonald, Kerr, and Broda(a lock).

GO HITMEN!

VERY disappointed with the Ice jerseys, espec. the black. Wish they'd kept the wordmark over what they ended up going with.

Giants, not so bad, but not a huge change.
