Things have been pretty quite in the Blues camp this summer. We've been active on the free agent front, but other then playing ATM to a few teams, trading has been pretty non existent. Thankfully we didn't have alot of holes to fill after the season ended, so most of our signings have been for depth.
FA brought in:
Todd Bertuzzi- We're hoping Todd can be a top 6 guy for us. We're hoping his puck moving skills will gel with one of our scoring LW's.
Brendan Bell-Well we didn't sign him, but when we saw him on waivers, we decided to jump on him. Rated the same as our other #7 dman, we hope Bell has more upside on the offensive side and gets in some good time with the NHL Blues this year.
Alexi Semenov-Another #7-depth guy. We're hoping he can improve on his 47 games played with the Sharks this year. He's big defensive type.
Garth Murray-A big physical center. He's played 116 NHL games in the last 5 seasons, so the NHL guys must see something in him. He will also be our token Flame this year. He will also compeate with Mike commodore for best hair on the Blues.
Stefan Meyer-We're hoping he can be a late bloomer in Phoenix. But realistically, we see him as a player that can help score at the AHL level. He's a powerforward type that just hasn't been able to put it togetherat the pro level.
Morten Madsen- Kinda suprised to find him available. A 4th round pick of the Wild, it looks like injuries have slowed his development. He's a good two way type player and is still rated a top ten pick in a few hockey publications. Not sure if that means he's that good or the Wild justhave crappy prospects.
Adam Morrision- The Flyers 1st pick in the 2009 draft. He was the 6th goalie taken. Didn't see a ton of time as the Blades back up last year, but he should be the starter this year. A bit of an off the board pick, but the Flyers liked his size, 6'3, though the kid needs to mix in a Big Mac every now and then (166lbs).
Things will probably be slow for us until the preseason starts. We're certainly open to trades, but we're looking to try and improve, not down grade and with not a ton of 1st line potential on the farm, thats going to make things tough.
We will also be leaving on Wednsday for our Honeymoon in Vegas, so our activity will be limited from Wednsday-Monday.
