Yeah you need one if you weren't part of the previous betas, or haven't pre-ordered the game.

Fileplanet had a giveaway but that's over now. I'd keep an eye on sites like mmorpg.com or tentonhammer.com to see whether or not they will be giving away keys in the next couple days.

Open beta usually means open to anyone , you should be able to get a key tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure the term "Open Beta" just means those involbed no longer need to adhere to the Non Dosclosure Agreement.

As added extra spice, FilePlanet will--in addition to distributing the client--be giving away a load of open beta keys starting on Tuesday, September 1, 2009. Get on the starting line if you do not have an eligible Aion account already! Eligible accounts include any previous closed beta participants and those who have preordered or prepurchased Aion.

"Giving away" is not really accurate, because you have to pay for a subscription...unless I am missing something.

Open Beta usually means open to everyone, anyone can download the client and anyone can get a key (anyone will be able to get a key tomorrow morning). Having it limited would still be a closed beta, just with no NDA.

It does if you have a Fileplanet subscription, so it is an open beta open to anyone, they just have an exclusive with Fileplanet. Many sites had posted earlier that they were going to have keys available on their site as well, but haven't seen anything there yet.

Which is stupid, pay to get into an open beta?

I agree its dumb and I have paid in the past just to get a key, problem is they have burned me before and can do it again as they don't guarantee you a key they are limited. Otherwise I probably would pay $6.95 to try it

So I broke down and bought the fileplanet subscription to get a key, the game looks really nice so far. Of course open beta is really choppy(network side) and gameguard has crashed the client 3 times so far

I used to have Fileplanet a while ago, there was a good span of betas they had.. but then it totally dried up so I didn't keep it.

Yeah, I broke down and pre-ordered it. Lag is pretty bad so far, but I just read they are bringing a few more servers online tonight.

I've been on and off the game most of the day, and I haven't had any lag problems yet. I've been on the server Siel.

I'm having problems with game guard crashing and crashing the game. I found that when the crash dialouge box appears don't click ok and ignore it, it pops up saying unauthorized software and tried to camp be but i cancelled that also and no more issues. had a few lag issues but nothing terrible like the WoW open beta.

I decided to pre order as well. I have had enough of WoW, and think that this might be a fun time waster. It looks great so far.

I'm installing it right now through the NCSoft client - I'm only getting about 700 kb/s so this is going to take a while
