No kidding. After last season I thought Gailey was a genius. If it wasn't for a joke of a defense, the Chiefs may have pushed .500. He really turned the offense around by developing the spread offense for Tyler Thigpen.
I have no doubt that there could be problems between the head coach and the coordinator. Especially when there is a difference in philosophy. I'm sure Haley has told Gailey that he wants the offense to be run a certain way which probably takes Gailey out of his comfort zone.

Chiefs cut Amani Toomer today. I think Ashley Lelie has made an impression and might actually see significant playing time there. What's the word on Darling?
More importantly, what's the word on Brandon Flowers?

I'm not sure how serious the injury to Flowers is. Have not heard any updates on Twitter and I believe I am following every person who could possibly report that imformation. Darling is on the injured reserve list with tore knee ligaments. I hope Lelie is a game breaker, but he may just be the best of the worst at this point. So they really have no other option.

Niners released Damon Huard. Nate Davis wins the #3 QB.

Looks like the pundits are starting to take notice of the Packers.
Quote:
All the hype in the NFC North so far this year has been centered on the high-profile quarterback changes in Chicago, Detroit and Minnesota. But that's about to change. Green Bay is clearly the team to beat in the division, and the Packers are about to force us to pay attention.

Vic Carucci
The Packers have a rising star in Aaron Rodgers, and their new 3-4 defense looks as if it will bring improvement. Prediction: 10-6, first in NFC North
Steve Wyche
Transition to 3-4 won't prompt a step backward. Aaron Rodgers and depth make Packers team to beat in the division. Prediction: 11-5, first in NFC North.
Pat Kirwan
Playing more zone will help a team that was predictable in man coverages. Rodgers is on the verge of being a top 10 quarterback. If the running game gets going, eight wins is too low. Prediction: 8-8, third in NFC North
Bucky Brooks
The Packers fly under the radar to finish with the league's best record behind an explosive offense and a suffocating defense. Prediction: 12-4, first in NFC North
Jason La Canfora
The Packers have made the move to a 3-4 scheme look easy this preseason. Love the QB, and the offensive line should rebound. Prediction: 11-5, first in NFC North
|
I'd say Rodgers is already firmly implanted as a top 10...strange comment.

I wouldn't read too much into pre-season hype or critisicm. See last year's Detroit Lions.
I will say the Packers don't miss a beat this year, and contend in the NFC North.

I dont think any of this stuff has anything to do with pre-season but moreso Dom Capers and having even an adequate defense that should have them above .500 if not in the 11-12 win area.

I'd be shocked if the Packers don't win the division.

Wow. "Shocked"? For me it's pretty close between Minnesota, Chicago and Green Bay. I think Green Bay is the favorite, but Minnesota's defense is pretty top shelf and Farve is going to force defenses out of the box and that's going to let Petersen run wild. Cutler completely changes everything in Chicago. I've read that Urlacher is in the best shape he's been in in years and says that he's recharged his career after Cutler was acquired. If that defense can stay healthy, I don't know if Chicago doesn't have a great season.

What he said....the NFC North is now just as unpredictable as the NFC East. 3 of the 4 teams are all capable of winning the division.
The way SI has their season preview set up, they expect THREE NFC North teams to make the playoffs. Yes, that is no typo.
Granted that's not going to happen, but it shows this will be one interesting division this year.

That's what I was thinking about as a comparison. I'm pretty sure SI or ESPN predicted that the Giants, Eagles and Cowboys were all going to make the playoffs a couple years ago. Said for shock value, but I think it's the same deal this year with the NFC North.
I'm a believer that defense and running the ball wins games. All three teams can do that with success, but Minnesota, IMO, has the edge.

"Shocked" was the wrong word but I think Green Bay is the team to beat if they can stay healthy.
That being said, I think the road to the Super Bowl in the NFC runs through the NFC North this year. I don't think the NFC East is particularily strong this year. The Giants and Cowboys have regressed, and Washington may make the playoffs but they won't get past the first round. The Eagles should win the division but who knows how they'll respond to Jim Johnson's death, the loss of Brian Dawkins, and the injury to Stewart Bradley.

LOL, personal bias much! Donovan McNabb isn't a top 10 QB in the league. He's the most overhyped player in the game. I bet Vick takes his job by the end of the year.

His stats and wins prove otherwise. And most overhyped player in the league is currently playing quarterback in Dallas.

At least Cassell will take care of the football. Romo is brutal. He'll have his nice half-season and then go in the tank again.
