Default "The tsunami killed 100 times more people than 9/11"

Quote:
a Brazilian ad agency—DDB Brasil—tried to win the World Wildlife Fund (WWF)'s business with this ad concept: An image of lower Manhattan showing many, many planes aiming at Manhattan—and they even include the Towers. The text urges us to protect the planet; it also reads: "The Tsunami Killed 100 Times More People Than 9/11."

lol.

Yeah, that's going to go over well.

How exactly is the tsunami relevant to protecting the planet?

Well, I don't want to be "that guy," but it's been 8 years since the incident; not eight days. I've seen worse uses of the tragedy than this.

What kind of business were they trying to earn for the WWF? Mass delivery of hate mail?

I think its a good message. I think people are too quick to forget so many other large tragedies, and the scale that goes along with them.

DDB isn't exactly a rinky-dink outfit. I wonder if it's a hoax.

Actually, it's a pretty damned stupid message.

Why? Because the ad missed its target. Instead of contemplating environmental or animal protection causes, we are debating where this ad company ranks on the stupid scale. Whatever the message was supposed to be, it was destroyed by the lack of tact shown by the ad company.

Well, the hollocaust happened 65 years ago and I don't think it would be appropriate to use associated imagery in a promotion, regardless of the intent.

That said, I think the main beef here is that the reference doesn't even make sense.

And that has what to do with the environment?

Wasn't that what the pro-life organizations use to do at the UofC?

I think there is a point about society feeding off glamourized tragedies a bit too much, the tsunamis left huge devastation.. but still what is the purpose of this? To piss off americans?

Oilers PR at it again?

OK, I just looked at the large image. I noticed it says this "The Tsunami killer 100 times more people than 9/11. The planet is brutally powerful. Respect it. Preserve it. www.wwf.org"

I can see the message now. They are using the image solely to put a perspective on how 9/11 is made to be a larger deal than nature itself, but in reality nature needs more focus from us". At least that's the message I see. The image alone has nothing to do with the environment/nature, but the words put it into context.

Still not an ideal image to do so, I'm sure there was a better way to carry it through.

Humanity killed 200 times what the tsunami did during WWII. We still win.

Mongol invasions, the great leap forward, WWI and half the rebellions in Chinese history.

Though really, Father Time is looking at this argument and thinking "I pwn both of you bitches."
