Speaking of the Holocaust, genocide, and WWII. Were you guys aware that Life just released some new photos from WWII era Nazi Germany?

I don't mean to derail the thread but thought they'd be interesting:

I don't know if you're being serious or not!

What's the opposite of de-rail? Isn't there a word for putting a train back on the tracks?

BTW I'm not arguing this point because I'm emotionally invested either way - I just want to make sure people have their facts straight. I love history - I was going to be a history professor until I decided I needed a real career. WW2 and events leading up to it was/is my area of expertise.
You've confused motivation and result. Yes the Jews were the only ones targeted in such a manner, but that doesn't mean the suffering level automatically goes up. Any group of people who have faced genocide has suffered greatly, it's not quantifiable and ranking suffering is just plain ridiculous.

I don't think Vlad was saying that Jews suffered more, he is just saying that the scenario is different for them. And because of this difference, it historically has benefit to teach each generation about it. I don't think he ever wrote that the other chapters of history deserved no mention...

Secondly, the thread was about Hitler, which of course leads to the holocaust. It was at that point people started complaining that the other atrocities around the world deserve more publicity, and then they tried to explain why they did not get the same exposure. Vlad simply stepped in and tried to identify what made the holocaust unique.

Suffering is the eye of the beholder... Did Soviet POWs who were starved suffer more or less than the Jews who were gassed? I don't know. My point is not to compare suffering, but merely to point out that the unique thing is the how it was oranized and carried out as state policy.
