Alright pretty much everything should be moved off of any remote servers, so let me know if you are still having the problems.

This is annoying. My computer works fine but evilcoug's isn't letting her on CP so I'm stuck helping her when I should be reading aimless chatter in the Random Thoughts thread.

I got her to do a release and renew and her IP switched to 192 (mine is also 192) and yet her's still doesn't work and mine is just fine.

Now I told her to DL firefox. Think that'll help any?

Anyone?

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

A 192.168.*.* IP isn't a public IP, you have to use a website or look in the router config to tell what your real world IP address is.

Let us know if firefox changes anything.

Yeah, still getting slowness. IP 174, when at work my IP is different and that works just fine. I've got no clue how to use a proxy server or any of that mess. Using Firefox. Other than that, guess I've just got to live with it.

We'll hopefully get it resolved, but to resolve it first we've got to identify the actual problem.

Were you able to try that WinMTR program posted a bit ago? Might help give some more info.

I'll try to reset my router when i get home. I got my roomie to try to get on to CP as well and she can't either, so, maybe the router reset will help. If it doesn't, i guess i'm kinda screwed.

Not screwed, if you could run that WinMTR program posted earlier and post the results it will help gather enough information to figure out what's the problem.

Nope, not useless, that's great, that one shows a bunch of packet loss inside their network.

EDIT: And you're on the 174 IP address as well right?

Unfortunately still seeing the same slowness. Still having the packet loss that I showed in an earlier post.

Thanks for trying. Hopefully the hosting provider can fix the issue.

I have been on again tonite. The Mac is okay. But this thread hung up for about 5 minutes. Maybe it is a virus. Keeping us from getting help by blocking the help thread? I am not really a computer guy so I don't know.

That was a joke. I am clueless, not that clueless.

Alright, some updated info, good news and bad news.

Bad news is Cogent has been working on this but they haven't been able to find the problem, we aren't the only ones affected by this apparently. And we all know how companies like to pass the buck.

Good news is the colocation facility is getting a new link into their data center from Seattle (rather than the east where they currently get it from). So that should resolve these issues.

Bad news is that's still a couple of weeks away.

Good news is he assures me it will be in place before the start of the regular season, and in addition to that they are working on getting Shaw and Bell access so users on those networks won't have to go through Cogent at all.

Bad news is for the time being we just have to live with it until it either gets fixed or the new link gets put in place.

Good news is Lifehacker posted a proxy information post today so those affected can check it out and hopefully work around this until it gets fixed:

Oh and neither good nor bad, but informational only:

He said while the mtr stuff is interesting for them, the packet loss inside their network is just their equipment dropping ping packets; they're configured to discard those if they get busy.

just wanted to add that not all 174.xx IP's are affected, as that's what my router is pulling and i have no connection issues to this site. it would be interesting to see affected user's connection setups to see if there is anything that ties them together (routers, firewalls, etc)
