You can get fresh Nova Scotian sea food delivered right to your door in Calgary from a fairly well known (to me anyway, but I'm from there) company already. You would have to be able to beat their prices, and be at least on par with their (very good) quality.

Maybe it's not so well known? I'll PM you. Don't want to be posting the competition in this thread. Unless the OP wants to know what he's up against.

Might as well PM it to me too. I don't see anything wrong with posting it in this thread though... OP doesn't have an active business yet.

www.clearwater.ca

Like I said to 4X4, prices vary, but it's worth what you're paying. Not that it's super expensive really. But delicious and fresh, it is.

Check out the fleet tracker... pretty cool.

Sorry Caper, but you would have to know about these guys if you're from there. Maybe you can beat their prices so you don't care?

You would also probably get sales from Calgarians who want to give their money to a local business.

Didn't you hear that Clearwater is going out of business?

Because all the muscles are RIGHT HERE *flexes*

I didn't realize you could order online from Clearwater. Makes sense as they have a store in (Halifax) Stanfield International to get fresh Lobsters before your flight.

2 cents

The main limitation to these fresh seafood companies is the shipping costs. For ex, just randomly ordering a lobster dinner for 2 from cleanwater is $79, very reasonable. But the shipping costs is $64.95 which is pretty closely doubles the price of the order.
If you have a deliver system that is cheaper than your competition, you may have a great venture

as someone who is in the expediting/logistics business i can confirm that there are very few options to properly transport this type of commodity and therefore dont expect it to be cheap.

its a high risk, high handling type of shipment and the only companies who will take it, do so because it commands a premium.

for example, even if you wanted to pay my company 10x the rate quoted above, we simply would not handle it.

good luck!

I want to thank all of you for your input.

"Save Us Sutter"...I am fully aware of Clearwater as a hugely established company. What I'm hoping to offer is local representation in the Calgary market. Clearwater doesn't have a presense out here. Sure they are well known to Maritimers, but they're also a very large company with alot of over-head costs. Luckily, for me, it's just me.

I already have an established company who will be supplying my product and have connections within Air Canada Cargo to ensure overnight delivery at a very reasonable cost.

I moreso wanted to judge the interest level. From what I can tell, it sounds quite promising.

I will post my website link once everything is up and running.

Thanks again for offering your input.
