Good place in Calgary to find shower bases?
Need a new shower base for a bathroom I'm remodelling. I have checked the ususal suspects (Totem, Rona, Home Depot) but all have a limited selection. Home Depot has a few but would like to look at a few more before I buy one. I have tried googling but only seem to come up with places to buy online and contractors.
Anyone know of a good bathroom remodeling type shop that has a good selection of shower bases? Just really looking for a plain white one, 32x32.

You should try these guys: http://www.marblefactory.com/
My friend's dad owns the company and my friend is actually one of the installers.

The key word in the name is Factory. They manufacture and install cultured marble.
Definition of cultured marble:
Quote:
Cultured marble, also referred to as cast polymer, is a plastic composite blend of high strength polyester resin and marble dust formed in a variety of molds to make a single piece article such as bathtubs, shower pans and vanity tops[1] with a surface that resembles marble.[2] Though it is a less expensive alternative to marble, it can have more tensile strength.
Because cultured marble is made with a moulding process,[3] it allows greater design flexibility than with stone. For instance, manufacturers of cultured marble can make a bathroom vanity with integrated bowl (or bowls). The manufacturing process encompasses several steps.[4] One step uses a non-porous gelcoat on the counters and sinks which seals the product and prevents later mold and bacteria growth and staining.

Thank you for the suggestion though, I hadn't thought of that place.
**edit**
Gave them a call anyways, they don't have exaclty what I need and to make it would cost $900. Wow.

If you're not all that picky you should check one of the local Habitat ReStores. I don't know what the ones there are like, but at the one here you never know what you'll find.

Have you tried Northland Construction? If they don't have what you need, they could probably refer you to a place that does.

Apparently I'm in a unique position. I'm looking for a base that you can drywall on 4 sides. I get looked at like I'm smoking crack when I ask that. Reason for it is, it's an older shower where you step over a small piece of framing to actually get into the shower, hence the need for drywalling (well, wetwall really) all around.
I could redo the frame work in the bathroom to accommodate a newer shower setup but that is a fair bit of work.
Anyone know of any really good, thick paint type application I could roll over the old base just to give it a newer look? It really seems like the easier way to go at this point.

This could work for you maybe, but you'd have to tile the base over the waterproof membrane.
Easy to cut to your exact dimensions. I've used it and would use it again.

Bump,
In the exact same situation, need a 32x32 shower base but unlike "GoinAllTheWay" mine doesn't need dryall around all 4 sides, just the usual 3.
thanks!

I wound up re-doing the framing in my shower to use the same 3 sided installation as everyone else. Found exactly the base you were looking for at Rona. You may also want to check the old totem locations that are now Rona too as they had some good selections.

I have a card for a company in edmonton. Waterproof base custom built to size and shipped to calgary in about a week. These bases still need to be tiled though. Was quoted about 550 for a 32 x 60 base including shipping. I will post the name when I get home tonight. Saw them at last home show, I plan on using them for my next bath Reno next month.

Deck mud.
Buy sand and type 10 cement. Dry mix at 4 pts sand to 1 pt cement. Add (minimal) water, remix, dump it in the hole and trowel out your pre-slope.
Cost? < $60.
Install a "Kerdi drain" (~$70). Let cure overnight.
Apply a topical sheet membrane, using thinset.
Cost? < $40.
Buy 9 sheets of 12" x 12" x 2" mosaics and set the floor of the shower. Cost? Depends on where you source the tile, but many places will have "end of stock" for < $2.00 a foot; so basically $20 will cover a small pan. Buy a small tub of Acrylic Grout and grout the joints (~$30).
There you go, shower pan for about $220 bucks and it looks a whole lot better over time than will a ####ty piece of plastic. Fiberglass is optimal, but you're looking at no less than $450 for a 32" x 32". The plastic ones are crap. Steer clear.
