I was shocked with the Jackson pick. Still it is Scott Pioli's job to be the GM of the Kansas City Chiefs not mine. It will take a while for Jackson to develop. I kind of have a hunch that Pioli wanted to make a pick off the radar. If it works out he will look like a genius. If it doesn't, Chiefs fans will debate forever the mistake of not picking Curry, or the blunder of trading a high 2nd round pick on a backup QB that you pay $63 million when you could have drafted Sanchez.

Pioli and Haley are lucky. No matter how terrible the Chiefs are this year, they can put the blame on the past regime. The thing that still bothers me, and yes I have bitched about it before numerous times, is the Cassel trade. We are not even through the preseason yet and our star QB is already out with an injury that could keep him out for 4 weeks. Money well spent.

How bad are the Raiders going to be?

The the 49ers ripped them with the run a week ago, there was words that the Raiders were disappointed because their run defense was a problem last year and they had been concentrating on it. It seemed they believed their secondary was still strong.

Now the Saints are a very, very good offense, but they ripped the Raiders every way possible. I can't see any upside for the Raiders right now, other than the fact that the Broncos and Chiefs are going through their own very rough times.

I guess it is a good think I loaded my Fantasy team up with Chargers (LT, Sproles, Gates, Chambers).

Ya... I think running teams are going to eat the Raiders alive this year... which makes the Chiefs and Broncos (let's face it, Kyle Orton isn't going to beat anyone with his head or his arm) dangerous. Once again, the bright spot is the secondary and linebackers. The DL is terrible. I was hoping the Raiders would draft Baji or whatever his name is.

Offensively, we'll see. The Raiders can run the ball... I think Garcia is a better choice because he's simply smarter than Russell and can get the ball out faster. If Skeletor would butt out, the Raiders could run a west coast offense like they did with Gannon under Chucky and concentrate on Miller as their primary receiver and pound the ball. But Skeletor still thinks it's the 1970s and there has to be a 40+ yard attempt every set of downs.

8-8 would be a dream. I think 7-9 is possible. Realistically, I don't know... 6-10? Best season since 2002. Ugh.

Thing is though at some point in time you have to spend money on a QB to get one that is any good. I don't mind them spending money on a quarterback. I'm bothered that they picked another teams backup guy and gave him that kind of money. The injury can't neccessarily go on Cassel though, the only QB who's been able to play behind that Chiefs line and stay healthy enough to play is Thigpen, and he's probably going to set some record for most NFL starts without a win.

Do the Chiefs, Broncos and Raiders share an AFC West calliope, or do they each have their own?

Brett Farve might have a broken rib? Quite the start to the season ol' timer. I hope this is a sign of things to come:

He won in Oakland last year. Your thinking of Brodie Croyle who has never won a game in the NFL.

Your right the Chiefs need a franchise QB. Cassel isn't it, at best he is a reliable back up. If he couldn't lead arguably the best team in football, playing one of the easiest schedules in NFL history, to the playoffs. How is he going to lead one of the worst teams in the league anywhere?

I was referring more in the broad sense that I hope this comeback is a failure. Not that I hope he gets injured... I definitely didn't make that clear.

Man, they need to cut it from a 4 game preseason to a 3 game preseason! Imagine if the NHL had a 20 game preseason! 1 more week of preseason and then the REAL FOOTBALL begins!

So the Chiefs hire a new GM who claimed everyones job would be evaluated in the offseason. He elects to keep Chan Gailey the offensive co-ordinator. Three weeks into the pre-season they axe that guy. They must think they need to match Denver and Oakland in terms of which organization is becoming a bigger gong show. Has the NFL ever had a Division where 3 teams went 2-14? I think it could happen this year in the AFC West. What a tragic way to celbrate the 50th anniversary of the AFL.

Anyone else see Favre's dirty chop block tonight? Hope the league gives him a hefty fine. There's no need for that kind of garbage, especially in a preseason game.

Definately, I highly doubt the NFL would fine him though. Isnt there a senior citizen bill of rights in the US

I am surprised he didnt break his hip on that play.

Looks like there may be a bunch of blackouts this season for some fans.

Quote:
Goodell was asked specifically about the Jacksonville Jaguars, whose season-ticket base dropped from 42,000 to about 25,000 this season. The decline is such that the club might not even bother asking for extensions in hopes of avoiding blackouts this year.
Quote:
The San Diego Chargers had an exhibition game blacked out for the first time since 2006 and have said they might have regular-season blackouts as well. Other teams that could have trouble selling out their home games include the Detroit Lions and Oakland Raiders, who both had blackouts last season.

The Cleveland Browns nearly had their first blackout since 1995 for a preseason game last month, but Goodell said some of the August ticket sales could be attributed to the nature of exhibition football.
