That, and its subtext "there's a sucker born every minute".

Kind of a new wave of thinking spreading across the world.. pun intended.

Actually its more an old new way, the Huna philosophy is very similar to this The Secret and that Power of Now stuff. Seems there is a lot of NLP twisted in as well, but instead of using it on others the books use it on yourself.

Its like Tony Robbins on crack. I recommend that everyone at least look into this section of the book store, but like everything else in life, take it in moderation. The underlying principle of many of these books is to look at your emotions objectively, do the same with anything you read in these books.

I don't think The Secret is overly dangerous, I think certain people are just vulnerable to completely believing in stuff like this when they're down and out. I watched the DVD and I thought there were some good points, but some of it was a little bit much. I didn't completely fall into it though, and that's the difference.

Same goes with people who become Born Again Christians or something along those lines. Some people become so desperate to believe in something that if there's anything that even remotely resembles what they feel, they'll dive in head first.

I don't think The Secret is overly bad, and frankly I don't think mass religion is that bad either. I just think certain people are weaker and indisposed to falling head first into stuff like this without really thinking about it clearly.

The Secret :
-we all work with one infinite power
-whatever is going on in your mind is what you are attracting
-we are like magnets like attracts like. You become and attract what you think
-Every thought has a frequency. Thoughts send out a magnetic energy
-People think about what they don't want and attract more of the same
-You attract your dominant thoughts
-Those who speak most of illness have it, those who speak most of prosperity have it
-You cannot have a universe without a mind entering into it
-Your thoughts cause your feelings
-you get exactly what you are feeling
-happy feelings will attract more happy circumstances
-what you focus on with thought and feeling is what you attract into your experience
-you create your own universe as you go along "winston churchill"
-it is important to feel good!
-the universe likes speed : don't second guess, don't delay, don't doubt
-when the opportunity or impulse is there ACT!
-the universe will rearrange itself accordingly
-Gratitude will bring more into our lives immediately
-Play the picture in your mind - focus on the end result
-Visualize : rehearse your future
-an affirmative thought is 100 times more powerful then a negative one
-you are the only one that creates your reality
-no one else can think or feel for your it is only you
-are your thoughts worthy of you? If not now is the time to change them
-beauty is all around you.....take time to laugh and play everyday....you are awake, energized and alive.....
Well there's the problem right there... faulty premise as photon said.

In magnets, as in electricity 'like' repels 'like' it doesn't attract. Therefore to become successful you should be thinking super negative thoughts so as not to repel the positivity of the great world aura around you....

There you go, your philosophy is all fixed up now...

I've read this book and had a good belly laugh at points even. It's one of my favorite books. Also Lamb by Christopher Moore is hilarious. (If we can't laugh at our own religion, what can we laugh at?)

It isn't.

Are we in the same conversation here? It's like an out-of-body experience would be, if such things existed.

Not my philosophy.....I went through the book in March of 2007 and those were a few of my take away notes. I don't even have the book anymore...I did googled the "like attracts like" bit as I agree with what you are saying and found the below where that is what they do state in the book : http://www.muybueno.net/articles/sto...cretmovie.html You are on the right track to exposing the philosophy though ...BTW Napolean Hill knew "the secret" long before Rhonda Byrne Imo....
