He is just a guy. A guy who survived some accident and then couldn't get it together after that. He did some things in the music industry for a couple years. Maybe got hot for one of those years.
Definition of a celebrity is -- a famous or well-known person. Most wouldn't know who he is. Unless your are part of the DJ scene. Which many aren't.
The most interesting part is the fact that he almost died, but didn't, but then he did. So yes, that is interesting enought to post a thread.
DJ AM - the celebrity disc jockey known for dating starlets and surviving a horrific plane crash - has been found dead in an apparent drugs overdose in New York.

He's actually quite well known, and most definitly a celebrity.
Out of curiousity, what kind of DJ was this guy? The one that plays other peoples songs or the guy who scratches records and makes his own music on the spot?

Kind of a mix of both. He had a pretty cool thing going with travis barker.
I'm 31 and def know who he is. He's excellent and use to play at a ton of clubs in Las Vegas. I actually ran into him in the bathroom at Rehab and he seemed like a nice guy.
That would be a good idea fotze. Maybe you could console his mom too, how could you leave that out.
But if people don't know who he is, why are they even posting in the thread. Really, I've bearley heard of the guy, just knew he was well respected in the DJ community for his DJ''ing.

Well, since I brought it up first, I guess I should answer that.
I seriously wanted to know how he was a celebrity. All I knew about him was that he was "the other guy" that survived that plane crash a while ago. I remember the headlines at the time emphasized that it was a member of Blink-182... and oh ya, also some DJ guy that was travelling with him. I was under the impression that the plane crash is what exaggerated his celebrity status. Guess I was wrong... but I don't see the problem in asking.

Who cares if he's a big celebrity, what is this, TMZ?
Should all threads about famous people come with a rating system of whether they're an A-list to Z-list star?
Obviously, some people know who he was and felt the need to make a thread and comment about it. What a pointless derailment.

It's not a derailment, it's a good discussion on how screwed up the media and people are by obsessing over so-called "celebrity" culture to the point that anyone outside of this guy's family and friends that knew him personally give a rat's ass that he's dead.

Or people who are into that kind of music, and actually know who he was give a rats ass. I despise celebrity culture, and knew who he was because I'm a big music fan.
How many DJ's do you actually know of that you can say he's not a famous enough DJ to be famous in that genre? He was quite big as far as DJ's go, so maybe, just maybe people might know who he is if they're into DJ's
I don't watch the NFL, and if some star NFL player died I likely wouldn't know who he was. That wouldn't make me go into a thread of NFL fans and start saying he wasn't a celebrity and why do people give a rats ass.
