I heard that 300 got cut from the NANG (North American Natural Gas) team over Wed/Thurs, more to come today.

Having lived in Boston I can clarify this:

"Wicked" by itself means nothing. It would be like saying "My severance package is VERY!" All "wicked" does is strengthen another adjective.

Therefore, you have to add an adjectve to clarify its meaning. So for instance, you can say "Phaneuf's slapshot is WICKED hahd."

Or in this case you could say: "her severance package was WICKED good." Or if it was bad, you could shake your head and say "that severance package was wicked bad man."

Well hopefully all you O/G workers saved up when times were good. You guys had a really great run for the last few years (so its hard to be TOO sympathetic!), but there was bound to be a downturn.

Well if it's anything like when I got the axe than no. I was given two weeks pay in lieu when the company I was working for dissolved and I had to wait for that period to expire, than the standard two week waiting period, and than I can collect my "Too bad you don't have a job anymore pity stipend".

Yes, you should immediately apply. You won't be paid benefits until your severance has expired, but I was told that if you wait to apply you may no longer qualify.

Hmmm, interesting.

I work indirectly for PC/Suncor and our contract was just renewed last year. I have noticed that some of our budgets have been cut a little, but they have been throwing us a lot of work lately (at least as much in previous years).

Any word of whether or not they are going to be cutting back in their environmental division?

Yep, I got laid off from Newalta in March and applied for EI that afternoon. I received an OK severence package and a bonus. Both had to be claimed on my EI application, my EI didnt start kicking in until the government deemed my severence and bonus would carry me...

and then.. I got a cool $441 every week.... thats so kind of them.

On a serious note, I dont care who you are... getting laid off sucks regardless the severence.

Probably. The title has nothing to do with sheet metal falling off a hotel under construction.

Hell, most people get the bare minimum which is for in lieu of notice (1 week at 2 years I think?) Some Oil & Gas companies give you 1 week of severance on top of in lieu of notice payment for 3 years. Brutal.

No kidding.

Anyways, I know quite a few people who were laid-off before the merger and they all received about 2 months of salary as severance (worked at the company between 2-5 years).

The Axe is falling fast and hard right now a Suncor. HR has been on my floor all morning and at least 10 people have been let go. Hopefully I'll be alright, but I have a bad feeling about how things are going.

I hope you survive! It sucks to lose a job regardless of how "good you had it" in the past.

Hide under your desk for the rest of the day. If they can't find you.....

I've been avoiding my desk all morning, but I'm sure the "Terminator" will get to me eventually.

Well at least make a trip to the supply cabinet and get yourself a nice stapler as a parting gift.
