No each copy is only designed for one computer. You'll need the family pack (5 licenses). If you were evil you would just find 3 other people who wanted the upgrade and split it with them ... but that would be wrong.

There is nothing to stop you from installing the single license on multiple computers.
Well, nothing other than a strongly worded EULA.

I've been running the developer beta (as a non-developer). From a user standpoint, there's not much difference...other than the fact that I can't use Aperture until they update it, or I go back to 10.5.7

Yeah, with the retail box. Not so with the discs that come with a computer though. If you buy a Mac Mini, don't use the system disc on a Macbook for example.

Even then...you can use a disc from a newer generation machine, typically, to install on an older gen machine. So, for example, a unibody MBP system disc will work with an older Mini or Macbook or what have you. The restore discs always contain the latest drivers and systems support at the time they are released.

If you can afford the family pack, and have multiple machines, you should do it. It benefits you indirectly by boosting the number of deployed seats that Apple can claim, encouraging developers to develop for the Mac. It also encourages Apple not to resort to stupid activation and licensing tricks like MS has to.
It also makes you a responsible internet citizen and increases your appeal with the ladies.

On the last os upgrade they included things like more choices on for photo books, added the facial recognition, and a bunch of other fun things. Will anything fun like this be added this time?

Technically that was the upgrade to ilife, the package of programs that comes with the mac. This upgrade is significantly less flashy ... it's more of an "under the hood" kind of thing. Some things off the top of my head that are cool to the casual user:
- Startup speeds are greatly improved
- Smaller footprint means the operating system will free up approx. 7 gigs of hard drive space
- You can take videos of your screen and upload to youtube (great for when your parents ask you a computer question over the phone)
- Quicktime is now essentially Quicktime Pro (you can edit movies and such)
- Items in the dock will behave slightly differently
Beyond that it's more stuff that gets developers all jacked up. Like the 64 bit thing. I keep reading about how awesome it is, but I haven't a single clue what it is.

Anyone upgrade to iLife 09 from 08? The iMovie and iPhoto is intriguing me. Are they better?

I prefer them. I didn't use a lot of imovie 08 but I hear 09 is a great upgrade. iPhoto is all about the tagging and facial recognition. Cool features, but I use them less than I expected to.

Here's the newly published "Enhancements and refinements" page for Snow Leopard:
http://www.apple.com/macosx/refineme...finements.html
That pretty much summarizes all the known changes.
PS: Split-pane terminal fataing rules.

I find it annoying (I have the developer beta). I like the terminal large so I don't have to scroll back so much. I much prefer the tabbed approach. But why oh why, for God's sake can't they put tabs in an X11 terminal? And the fact that a simple scrollbar isn't enabled by default is asinine.

I like the split-panes. I've never really been a fan of tabs... at least not when it's something I need to keep an eye on while I'm doing something else.

Dammit I want to understand Services better! It sounds like a pretty cool feature but I don't totally understand just yet.

The iphoto is fantastic! It uses facial recognition and organizes all photos by face / person or event. It takes a couple of times for the computer to "get" a person, but really, it's bang on.
Also, you can put a google earth tag on each photo if you want. Most locations are in there (except Fort Mac pop.80,000 weird). Once you do that you can make a map / travel style book and it will organize your trip for you with matching maps that look all old school - like the light brown paper maps.
The other books are a great feature too, more style options, colour and other choices there. It's really great if your into printing your own photo books. Quality is incredible, can get hardcover, etc, for cheap! $30 for a 8.5 x 11 hard cover 70 picture book (something like that).

Check out the services section of this site: http://www.macosxautomation.com
The simple AppleScript service plugins will let you do stuff like add a "Rotate 90 degrees" option to only graphics files (ie. only relevant services apply to relevant file types). Essentially its just simple scripts and macros like before, but smartly filtered and made available to you.
I didn't know anything about services until a few day ago - I am suprised they haven't gotten more attention, this is an impressive feature.
