Floor Hockey! I love this sport!

i just signed up with my friends a few weeks ago to play in cssc really rec league. alot of new players to the game of floor hockey so i'm hoping my friends like it and we can pick up our skill level to play in rec next season haha.

how are those DOM elite sticks? i'm going to go pick up a few sticks this weekend for me and a few teammates.

The only downside IMO is the blade on them are a little small, I think. Otherwise, I don't mind them.

I know that I'm a little late to the party here, but if there is room I'd definitely be interested. I have played as a sub a few times in the CSSC and I'm not crazy about it. The rules compared to normal hockey are pretty restrictive. You can't run with your stick above your waist at all, and can't use your body to protect the ball at all...just not my cup of tea at all.

I believe it's $70 or 80 if you sign up as a single. Less if you join a team. The "season' is 6 games plus 2 play off games

I will create a sign up thread pretty quick. And yeah, the rules can be a little annoying at times, but you learn to work within them.

Also, the cost should work out to about $60 each if we register a full team (9 or more players, I believe).

Are you looking at CSSC? If so then I'm out. I played a few weeks ago and its a long story, but I can't play under those ridiculous rules for a whole season, its going to drive me insane.

If people are interested in another league though, with more "hockey" type rules then I'm interested for sure.

Well in the game I played a few weeks ago the GC came to me after the game and said "I should've thrown you out by half time." I was completely surprised...I'm the furthest thing from a dirty player there is seriously! I took no penalties and as far asI could tell had done nothing wrong (aside from some terrible plays that I'm sure my teammates would call me on!) I asked why and she said it was because I was playing the ball backwards through my legs. I was perplexed to say the least...a backhand shot is totally legal, but for some reason that shot between the legs is illegal? Her claim is that this lets me shield the ball from my opponents (duh, that is called proper body positioning so that it doesn't get stripped from you, but I digress) and that encourages body contact.

There never was any body contact, and nor should their be. I'm all for limiting this and by no means advocate that you can take liberties in that fashion...let me state that without question before someone dives down my throat. But when you are making a totally legitimate hockey play with absolutely no safety issue involved and no hint of body contact or anything of the sort that should not be excluded. I guess the rule is that you have to face the other players. Makes sense in the corner...but one particular play was in the slot.

Anyway, why does this matter? Well it turns out that you get/give "spirit points" or something like that. Apparently these add up and count as extra wins or whatever. I confess that I don't know how this really operates but I also don't care. I just want to run around, play some fun floor hockey and that's that.

I just can't get into a game where running on the open floor with no one around you can get you a penalty because you have two hands on your stick and maybe the blade goes above your waist, or you spin and take a backhand shot that I guess shields the ball from your opponent (imagine that, I do want the shot to get past them!) and thats a penalty as well.

That's what happened to me a few times in CSSC. Once I was running behind me own net with somebody chasing me, decided to reverse, and got called for shielding the ball. Ugh.

I will never play in CSSC again for hockey especially after playing in the GHL.

CSSC caters to the more social side of things, eg: if you're learning to play the game, etc.

CSSC is very recreational if you're looking to be competitive it's not for you. On the flip side I have some buds who never were very athletic growing up they asked me to join a team in the CSSC, there's always the team in there that wants to dominate and when you lose a soccer game like 10-0 (get mercied in the first half of the first half) it's not fun.

So I guess the moral is if you're good at the sport or looking for anything above very rec for fun the CSSC might not be the best place to look.

I tend to agree with Slava. I played CSSC hockey a couple years ago and had nearly the same thing said to me, but I got a lot of penalties. If you've ever played hockey before its nearly impossible to stop yourself from "shielding" the ball or carrying the stick a bit high sometimes.

I'd be game for any of the other leagues, but CSSC has some pretty strict rules.

Sorry they ruined your experience. I play goal, so i don't really notice this kind of stuff, and my team rarely gets called for theses kinda of things. I play enough "serious" hockey in the winter, so the ball hockey in the spring/summer is just for fun and to check out some cute girls while playing a sport I enjoy

I do totally agree though that CSSC has its place. I'm not a totally serious player and really I'm not that good, so its not a knock on the league or anything. I know its fun and that is what draws me in. I just don't think that a whole season of that would be fun for me personally. I want to play something where its still fun, but maybe where the rules are a little looser thats all.

As I've said before, GHL>CSSC.

But I dont' play GHL co-ed anymore either because they have similar stick height rules. If you have a choice between the two, definately go GHL. You'll have more fun and I think the cost is around the same

Looks like there are alot of floor hockey fans here.

Someone should take the bull by the horns and organise a CP night. Just book a gym and make sure we have two full equipment goalies, and I'm there.
