Default Henrik Bjorklund dominates J-20 nordic cup

Quote:
HENRIK BJORKLUND (CGY 2009 draft pick) dominated in the J-20 Nordic Trophy tournament as he led all scoring ...in the 4GP (Farjestads went undeafted in 4 games to win the tournament) he had 5 goals and 5 assists and was a +8....good job CGY for drafting him-I knew he'd be a very good prospect..of course he played DIV I against men last year,so starting the pre-seaon vs. J-20 competition --well he should dominate! Impressive that 4 of his 5 goals were ES goals as opposed to piling the stats up with PP goals and the +8 in Es--that indicates dominance..

HAHA, love the next post.

"I've always thought of him as a hybrid between Bourque and Backlund because of his name."

Thats great to hear.

Will be playing for the big club in SEL this year or will he be spending most of his time with this junior squad?

Does he have any chance at the Swedish WJHC team this year?

"Backlund to Bjorklund, passes to Bourque, rims it around for Backlund, kicks it up to Bjorklund, passes to Bourque, shoots and rebound goes to Backlund then passes it to Bjorklund, hits the post and Bourque is there to put it in the net. What a play by Bjacklund, Bjorque and Bourqlund. "

stats found here: http://stats.swehockey.se (5 goals on 13 shots, not bad)

Looks like Jacob Josefson is dominating in the games he played in the SEL. 5g, 2a http://www.nordictrophy.com/stats.php

Backlund + Bjorklund = deadly combo in 4 years from now for Flames.

Josefson was definately a steal for NJ. No wonder they wanted to trade down with us to get this dude.

Too bad he wasn't good enough to crack into Sweden's U20 lineup in 4 nations tournament in Finland.

Booyeah! Miikka Kiprusoff the Younger is on the roster. kekkone, what are your thoughts on Ortio making the SM Liiga TPS squad as a backup this season? Swift Current was keen to bring him over but he opted to stay in Finland... does he have to do military service?

TPS has three goalies, Daniel Leggio, Atte Engren and Ortio. Ortio has played just one pre-season game which Jokerit won 3-2. According to his coach Ortio played well and cannot be blaimed for loss. Beginning of the season is still two weeks away but right now it seems that TPS is going with tandem Leggio and Engren. There has been no news or speculation where Ortio will be placed (juniors or Mestis) to wait for call-up in case of injuries.

Yes, he has military service to serve and in older article he mentions finishing school.

Daniel Leggio is an American goalie I have never heard of; surely Ortio must be better than he is?

Leggio has been solid, nothing spectacular but it looks like he can handle starter's job. Just to remind you that Ortio is 18 years old, there's no need to rush him, not in Flames nor TPS point of view. Pre-season games can lie and Leggio looking to be solid doesn't mean he's going to be that in "real" games. Leggio was signed to be starter and if he doesn't pan out I'm pretty sure TPS will try to sign new goalie. No way they would go to war with goalie tandem with combined age of 39. Ortio's chance to take spot from squad is to outplay other youngster Engren (21) which is also doubtful.

Edit. Looks like Engren has developed nicely during summer and might be number one choice for TPS.

To return to talk about tournament, I get to see all three Finland's games. Ortio and Kuusela will split first two games and better one will get extra game which also shows who's going to be frontrunner for starter's position in WJC.
