Get off the f'n sidewalk!
I don't know what it is like in Calgary but here there are way too many older teenagers riding their bikes like crazy people on the sidewalks. You are walking along and all the sudden they go whipping by you from behind and startle the hell out of you! This happens to me every day I go out walking and they always go by and miss you by a few inches. I swear to god I am gonna start ripping them off their bikes!

I don't ride on the sidewalk at all, but it really sucks when a truck blows past you on the road, nearly hitting you, and screams out the window for you to: "Get off the effin' road, @sshole!"

I agree with you, that is just wrong. These little buggers however are doing it in a suburb where there is light to no traffic.

I fully support shutting down Memorial Drive and making it a giant bike and pedestrian promenade to avoid these issues.

thats great, so long as you don't think you're better than a car. i dont mind cyclists, on the highway or in the city, so long as they're considerate, but every now and then i meet one taking up a whole lane in the city, or riding the yellow line on the shoulder of the highway, making me slow down, wait for oncoming traffic to clear, and then pass (or get REAL close with my mirror)....a few kms of this on the highway and id almost rather just run them off the road, its frusterating having to wait cause some jerk wont move, and if you go and something happens you get sued. if you think your shiny helmet, yellow jersey, and tight shorts make you equal to, or better than my front bumper....well, there are some deer you will meet on your cycle in the sky.
as for the guys on the sidewalks, i believe the movie 'big daddy' has a remedy for idiots. otherwise, cyclists, continue being green for me.

While I am all for older bike riders taking it to the streets, I think 8 year olds should stay off the road. I had one kid block the turning lane for 3 lights because he wanted to cross but sat there because the the red hand was up. The guy in the car behind me went to hit the button and the kid took off anyways.

What's worse than the teenagers on the sidewalks with bikes are the good for nothing bike couriers!
Why in the name of god the city doesn't crack down on them is beyond belief. Working downtown I almost get plowed over by one once a week.
They are the scum of the earth in my opinion.

What's worse than couriers? Cyclists who think they own the pathways because they reckon they are 'carbon neutral'.

I have no issues at all with children riding on the sidewalks, they usually are very polite and let you know they are coming or at worst they ride far around you. For their safety it is better they are on the sidewalks, the others can burn in hell!

Could you imagine what would happen to people on bikes if they also were holding a leash and taking their dog for a "walk" at the same time?
Chaos! Everyone would deserve to die, there would be nukes!

yeah, you can't win. we get sworn at whether or not we're on the road or the paths.

Kinda like the knobs who walk 5 abreast on the pathways and ignore my bell. Stick to the right unless you're passing people and we'll get along just fine.

Speaking of, people who walk beside their dog on the sidewalk and expect you to get out of the way of their dog also deserve to be shot.
I'm not going to walk on the road so a dog can stroll comfortably by on the sidewalk.
That doesn't happen often (since most people are not ######ed) but when it does I feel Sidewalk Rage.
And another "Kids today, why I oughta!" peeve of mine is when people, generally them damn teenagers, walk beside each other and don't move into "single file" when you are walking towards them.
Get outta my way you little s! I pay taxes, I'm not on my way to the soda stand to buy french fried potatoes with ketchup, I've got important places to be and I need my alloted two feet of sidewalk real estate.
And another thing -- don't put your dog's faeces in a garbage can that is connected to a bus stop. People have to stand there or crying out loud, and dog waste does not smell nice. Take your property home with you, or put it in a garbage can that is not placed next to a shelter that is clearly designed for humans.
Oh yeah, and if you are bus driver, don't pretend like you are Sandra Bullock in "Speed" and then force me to rattle my head off the metal handles on the top of the bus seat in front of me when you slam on the brakes so you can pick up some stupid slob who is probably on welfare waiting at a stop you should have seen coming a mile away.

Is it illegal to bike on the sidewalk?
If it is, I had no idea and I was biking by the hospital (not in Calgary) and a nurse cussed me out. I almost fell off my bike because she scared the crap out of me.
