Default Ocean temperatures hit record highs

Some friends in Nova Scotia told me last week the beaches have been fantastic this year, one said it feels as warm as Cancun. I kind of laughed it off until I came across this article in Ocean City, Md. where the water temperature hit 88 degrees this week, thats 16 degrees higher than normal

Quote:
It’s not just the ocean off the Northeast coast that is super-warm this summer. July was the hottest the world’s oceans have been in almost 130 years of record keeping.

The Gulf of Mexico, where warm water fuels hurricanes, has temperatures dancing around 90. Most of the water in the Northern Hemisphere has been considerably warmer than normal. The Mediterranean is about 3 degrees warmer than normal. Higher temperatures rule in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Whole article.

I blame the West's addiction to oil. And the oil industry generally.

Soon we will all be dead. Boiled until dead. All for oil.

Another El Nino this year, so you should have a mild winter. Wonder if it'll effect the Olympics?

I was just in Costa Rica and swimming in the Pacific ocean off of Playa Hermosa. I'm sure it was mostly due to the sun, but that water was warm as hell. Waaaay warmer then even the pools temperature.

Are you saying we can extract oil from you once you've been boiled? I'll bring this to the attention of my superiors.

Can we start working on the Pacific ocean next? If It was a few degrees warmer it would nice nice.

I'm going to help by starting my car and just letting it run all day in my drive way.

My understanding was that ocean temperatures have actually dropped since 2006 as a result of natural climate cycles.

It seems strange to me that such a huge story would be broken by the North Jersey news.

I'm always wary of news stories that make reference to anonymous experts.
