So I PVRed the Jays game last night because Doc was on the bump, but I was pretty indifferent the whole game. Where I was excited and eager to watch Doc earlier in the season, I lethargic and bored. Even when Doc was giving up runs in bunches...didn't really care. Watched two innings and deleted it.

So either I have no interest in baseball anymore, I had already accepted Doc leaving, or the Jays and JP have turned me off as a fan - which is pretty difficult to do. I almost hope Snider is a total bust so he doesn't have to put up with this horseshi1 organization and division.

I feel for you and I am much the same way. I am 22 now and grew up spending summers at the lake with my grandparents and sitting on the couch with my grandpa every evening to watch the Jose Cruz Jr. era Jays get smashed over and over. But everyday my grandpa returned to watch all 9 innings and so I would join him.

I just can't do it anymore. I love the organization and continue to do so much they NEED to finally have a year where they are successful so they can reinvigorate their fanbase. I turn games on now and watch when the young guys like Snider,Hill,Lind are batting or when Romero, Cecil etc are pitching but other then that I've become pretty immune to the pain of the inevitable huge losing streak that essentially ruins their season before the all-star game.

I'm tired of it, but I'll always support the team.

Wait.... Whoa..... You don't find watching Vernon Wells get out with RISP exciting anymore?

You need to make a drinking game out of it! Will Vernon:
a) Swing at the first pitch after the batter in front of him walks on 4 pitches and hit into a double play
b) Pop up in foul territory
c) Roll over a changeup to the SS
d) Strike out swinging at ball 4!!

How often do you need to get your stomach pumped with charcoal?
Twice a week?

This has been also the most frustrating season for me as a fan - it's just getting too frustrated to follow a sport where the playing field is so uneven. Which isn't to say the Jays haven't also shot themselves in the foot by handing out far too much money to players that ended up being really cruddy.

Not being a Jays fan I have to admit it has been enjoyable watching this team completely fall apart. I feel Jays fans pain, I cheer for the A's. But back to the Jays, in order to be a competitive team in that division against teams who have almost unlimited financial resources that everything has to go right for the Jays. Everyone brought in during the offseason has to make an impact, everyone has to stay healthy, just everything has to go right and they still need either the Yankees or the BoSox to have an off year.

This team doesn't deserve fans.

There isn't any problem cheering for a losing team if they're still fun and trying.

But this GM and scouting department acquires players that just don't care.

I don't buy that. Lots of teams with little payrolls are doing well.

And lots aren't.

It's an uneven playing field - teams don't have the same opportunity to succeed. It's not even close particularly in the AL East.

One bit of good news, if the Jays do not sign Scutaro and Barajas, coupled with the 3 guys that they didn't sign from the top rounds, the Jays will have 9 1st/sandwich/2nd round draft picks next season.

It's not even close and the methinks that the chances of there being no MLB team in Canada are growing. Sure looks(as has been speculated) that Rogers is setting this team up for sale. Only the old guy was even interested and the fans surely are tired of watching their team be unable to compete in the dufus setup baseball has.

So where is it the MLB wants to expand to? If they made an offer to Rogers tommorrow they would have a team next year IMO!!!!!!!!!!

One example please? Every team in a playoff spot is in the top 12 in payroll this year

Where did you get those numbers from?

I only had the starting salary at opening day, but with those there are a couple of teams out of the top 12 that are in play-off spots:

St. Louis and Colorado.

With Texas and San Francisco close to being in the play-offs.

Also a number of teams in the top 10 and 5 that aren't even that close.

Money is part of the equation for the Blue Jays, but fart I was a big Expos fan and if they'd had a budget like the Jays have been give for the past couple years in the 90's they could have kept a much better team together for a couple more years.

Fact is Ricciardi has handed out some terrible contracts, and he hasn't put enough talent on the field. For every good move he's made there are one or two you can point to as being terrible moves. At this point in time I like the direction of the Baltimore Orioles a lot better than the Blue Jays.

Yup the Expos could only dream of having anywhere close to the Blue Jays payroll. And don't forget Tampa! Great young team. Got off to a terrible start year though.. maybe World Series loser hangover. They're coming on like gangbusters now but it's probably too late.

St.L is now in the top 12 because of Holliday.

When I heard the stat I beleive SF was tied with Colorado, and with their deadline trades sit 12th in payroll now.

So 7 of the 8 teams in playoffs are in the top 12 in payrolls. SF who is 2 games out would make it 8 for 8.

Oh course some teams in the top 12 aren't in the playoffs! Only 8 teams make it!

Lets look at the teams with high payroll not in the playoffs: Only the Cubs and Astros are really "Failures." The Mets have been decimated by injuries, and every other team is in the top half on the league. (Even the cubs are only 6 out and over .500)

The point is that of the 8 playoffs teams, all are in the top 18. 7 of the 8 are in the top 12. The bottom 12 teams in payroll are all out of the playoffs.

In pst years payroll didn't seem to be quiet as big as a deal. But with the small market teams forced to cut payroll even more then usual this season, the disparity is incredibly evident.

Well I guess if you finish last for a decade you can eventually be competitive for a few years..... Until they loose Crawford after next season! Great system!
