Terrible decisions is what Brett Farve is all about and now that he's a step slower and has less velocity on his ball, disaster will always be a pass away. Childress runs a west coast offence which has never been Farve's game as well. The Vikings have an excellent defense and possibly the best running game in the league. They don't need a gunslinger that's going to turn over the ball 20 times. All they needed was an efficient passer that could avoid turnovers. They would go farther with Jeff Garcia than Brett Farve IMO.

As a Packer fan I really shoudln't be defending Brett Favre, but feel I have to.
1. No player likes training camp. No one. Sure he skipped out, but so did Michael Strahan last year. Didn't hear anyone calling him lazy? If you gave any player the chance to miss training camp i bet they would in a second.
And also its a tough unfair to call a guy who hasn't missed a start his whole career lazy. Mostly becuse he also rarely missed practices with any injuries. Not only did he play hurt, he practiced hurt too.
Also, Favre actualy did not have enough athletic abilities to exceed in the game, that was his problem. He had them, but your making it sounds like he is a Michael vick that could just show up, play, and bam h'es in the in the Hall of Fame. Not the case at all. Holmgren had a serious project in Favre. Look at his stats the first few seasons. He was awful becuase he thought that he had the arm strenght to make any throw and the playmaking aiblity to overcome everything. Holmgren had to teach, and mentor him, into the idea that physical talents will not get you to the top. Once he learned that, he became an MVP.

and also, the West coast offence is the only offence Brett Favre has ever known. Holmgren ran it, Shumer ran it, Sherman ran it (althought with a variation) and McCarthy is as west coast as Holmgren. there is a reason you constantly hear Favre refer to the Vikings playbook as one he could "play in his sleep". He's always known the West Coast and knows it front and back.

To say that Gore was excited for today's morning practice would be like saying the Grand Canyon is kinda deep. Remember, he was held out of Friday's game against the Broncos, so today's scrimmage was in effect his preseason opener. After decking Brown, Gore did the same to linebacker Kirk Morrison, who is not exactly a scrub. His third opponent was going to be David Nixon, a slightly built rookie out of BYU. When running backs coach Tom Rathman saw that matchup, however, he pulled Gore out and put in someone who wasn't as lathered up. Nixon ought to send Rathman a thank-you note.

And just to add to that, let's pretend that he did play last year, and skipped TC. He's a DE, with the same team, under the same system the past few years. Sure you should be there, but as a vet you could probably miss TC and still be absolutely fine as long as you kept yourself in shape.

Now lets look at Favre's situation: For one, its a brand new team/coach, with players he's never played with before. You'd think he'd want to build a rapport with them and learn their tendencies so they can get on the same page. The next reason(which relates with the first one): he is the QUARTERBACK, he is THE most important player on the team. He needs to know where everyone on the offence is going to be on every play. The offence basically lives and dies under him, it is crucial that he works with them as much as possible, especially considering he's never played with any of them before. He definitely has alot more responsibility than a DE does. Which brings us to the third point: leadership. The QB is in most cases the leader of the offence, maybe even the whole team. He is the one leading them into battle. In that role, you should be setting an example by being in camp, working your tail off, and leading the men so they have confidence and believe in you.

By waiting until camp is over to sign, Favre has shown no leadership whatsoever. Sure, its a system he's played many times before, and maybe he will play decent in it. But that's not the point. To me, skipping camp shows that he doesn't care about the Minnesota Vikings, all he cares about is himself, and getting one more year of gunslingin' and havin fun. With that contract, he better be prepared for the expectations - and responsibility - that come with it.

49ers sign CB Eric Green. This is a depth signing, the secondary has actually been playing pretty well in camp so far.

They scooped him up after the Fins cut him loose. By everything I have read, he wasn't very good in Fins camp.

Yeah but it is a low risk pickup at this point. He isn't expected to step into a starting spot so if he earns one then it will be worth the signing.


Edit: The Raiders released Lorenzo Neal? He may be a bit long in the tooth, but he has opened up some pretty big running lanes and made a lot of yards for a Eddie George, Corey Dillon and Ladanian Tomlinson.

I wonder where he will end up, or if this is the end of the road?

He was beaten by two rookies and he wasn't even good enough to keep as a depth chart player. He's been terrible all camp and the first pre-season game.

As an Eagles fan, I reserve the right to be completely pessimistic and negative about everything. Preseason or not, the first team looked like arse crack. The D got shredded. I don't care that the the (almost) entire starting Oline was out. I'm not sold on Jim Johnson's assistant taking over on D either.

And yes, I would have thrown batteries at Santa Claus.
