If you want a great steak.... don't eat at a pub. Go someplace like Ceasers or Wellingtons.
If you want pub food (fish & chips, steak & kidney pie, bangers & mash) go to a pub. Personally, I like the Rose & Crown for fish & chips.

Actually can anyone recommend a place that has good steak and kidney pie? Most so called Irish pubs do not have it. Kilkeny used to have a really good one, but they stopped making it. The steak & kidney pie at the Unicorn is just nasty.

Other than the ones already stated...
I've always liked the Ship & Anchor and the Rose & Crown - both on/near 17th Ave. And Molly Malone's in Kensington. I've only ever had dinner at the Rose & Crown tho (which was good), so can't comment on the food at each.
Otherwise, I'm in love with Brewster's beer... The Brewster's in the south (the Bonavista one kinda sucks for atmosphere, there's a new one in McKenzie Town though if you're that far southeast) I find their food hit & miss, but the beer makes up for it.
