That's the thinking I'm hoping for, people that think their starter will be able to play 72 games and they only need a backup for 8 games

Regardless, since you say a backup wont get me par then these 50-59OVR players are who are going to be playing for me regardless. So no harm in trying

To further expand rating wise Doug does not have a number 1. Its more of a 1B (67ov), I had the same problem last season the problem with a 1B is they are not consistent and their 'CON" is difficult to keep at 100%. Compared to the higher end goalies.
A three goalie tandem is probably the best solution IMO.

I like his chances of trading Labarbera and cap for one of your excess prospect goalies, than if it was a 62 OV forward making that much.
Funny thing, is what CPHL team currently has 5 AHL goalies on their roster, when our AHL teams can only carry 24 players.
If we should be ganging up on a team to force them to trade a goalie for nothing, I'd be looking at Anaheim.

No ones forcing Doug to trade anyone, we're just expressing our opinion on the matter at hand. Doug will deal with this situation as he see's best, as will Ravi...I'm not sure why you're getting so grumpy about this, that's my job

I'm not grumpy, I'm trying to make all those guys without back ups that way. I'm just trying to sewer my team and throw a hand grenade at the entire league.

I have a goalie I can trade for nothing, his name is John Murray. Also, Varlamov likely is my cphl backup which brings that number down to 4 (before dumping murray if i need to). Furthermore, I have 23 AHLers right now assuming I call up boyd, 22 if I call up Varlamov. I have 6D and 11 FWD in this situation, so I just need to sign some random person and I have 12 fwds and I still don't have to trade any of my goalies. 12 + 6 + 4 = 22. So I have 2 extra roster spots even assuming I have 4 goalies on my roster, not sure where you see the need for me to trade one of my guys for nothing.

Your not shooting for the moon but if you expect to get a lateral deal for a backup goalie then I think thats asking for too much. A backup might play max 20 games but thats still not worth a lateral move. If you accept prospects and picks for these guys then its an amazing strategy for you. You basically use cap to grab some picks and prospects which is great for a re-building team but I just think the asking price is way too high at the moment for a backup. A 63 OVR backup for a a 58-60 roster player its a great deal but thats not the case at the moment. Overall this strategy works because I have asked you about one of your backups.
This post is strictly my opinion though so it doesnt mean much.

Well... I dabbled...
To CAR: Shane O'Brien
To TOR: Steve Valiquette
Wanted a 3rd, just in case the sim ravaged my goaltending. His 0.75 contract made it very appealing... and I don't mind moving O'Brien as he was a 5/6, which isn't hard to find to replace.
Thanks to Doug for the smooth talks...

Hurricanes Acquire the right hand man of the Aryan Union?
Carolina Hurricanes General Manager Hanna Sniper announced today the acquisition of defenseman Shane O'Brien from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Hurricanes in the process move goaltender Stephen Valiquette who days seemed numbered in Raleigh after the signings of Brent Johnson, Johan Hedberg, Jason Labarbera and the re-signing of Pascal LeClaire to a long term deal this summer.
Shane O'Brien will join the Hurricanes as a depth defenceman, either holding down the 6th spot or sharing popcorn time in the pressbox on off games.

Seems like an expensive 59ov dman...

In all fairness, I don't know how many teams O'Brien would be considered a roster player, my team yes but one with depth.
so you can still stand by what you say

The only reason why I think a 59 OVR D-man is a roster player is because of my own blue line . A 59 OVR can play in my top 4 unfortunatly.

I bet there are a few teams that will have a 59ov dman on the roster...
I am sure my 6th dman will be a 59ov'er unless another team wants to trade me a dman....

It's going to take a couple games to find out where these ratings fall, I always looked at it as a 72 was the benchmark for defenceman. Anything less then that and your depth may be an issue

Right now there are 160 CPHL defenceman with an overall rating of 60 or higher according to the database that I did. That is 5 guys for every team and 10 left over. So realistically....any team with 6 defenceman rated 60 or better has depth at defence. As for the old 72/62 bench mark....there are 134 players rated that high, meaning that a 62 guy in reality is a top 4 guy for most teams. There are only 185 guys who are 59OV or better, so really...most teams are probably going to have at least one guy that low play a regular shift.
These last re-rates were pretty hard on positional players and it used to be that unless all your guys were 70OV or better they couldn't play. Now the range is probably 56 to 76 for the position players where it previously used to be 70 to 85.
