If you text while driving you are a complete idiot.

It's not that bad, as long as you're careful while doing it, then it ain't no thang! Talking while driving, that is. Texting is a bit harder, and I try to avoid it as much as I can.

Yup, sure. It's a bad habit, no one should do it. And if you do do it, you should stop.

Am I going to have to come down off this soap box to deal with you?

Why did all three of them have to look at the text? Everybody knows you get the passenger to hold the wheel.

I drive approx 150 km a day through downtown and all over the SW.
Ive been wondering for a while why drivers in Calgary are the WORST DRIVERS ON THE ENTIRE ****ING PLANET.
If TEXTING is the reason for this, then this city is even dumber then I thought.
Make a law on it. Get it front page in the news. This has to stop now.

Do you think texting only occurs in Calgary?

Not sure there should be a law against talking and driving, but texting and driving should definitely be a no-no. You actually have to move your eyes for that, never mind your attention span. Your eyes actually come OFF the road. It's the equivalent of someone behind you randomly putting their hands in front of your face for tiny portions of time.
Not sure how anyone in their right mind can defend it. And I'm saying that as a has been texter/driver. I never got into an accident but I know I was compromised often and probably lucky a few times. I had the two thumb ones and I drove a stick shift. I consider myself one of the best drivers in the world and probably was to be able to pull that off. But I was definitely one of the DUMBEST drivers in the world too. I stopped doing this a while ago.
I'm for hands free and driving though. Even though they say it's distracting, well so is having a person in the passenger seat. What are we going to do next, have a sound proof booth for the driver?

You serious?
Business deals are done through txt now. Many a booty call will come in the form and ONLY in the form of a text. Updated scores for Flames games are helpful and lass hassle then calling everytime. Not to mention all the "sexting" thats going on.
If you dont get by now, you probably never will.

The video might be as lame as some of you are saying but the message it sends certainly isn't. Accidents do happen because of texting. I've seen one. It wasn't a pretty scene.
At one time I used to program my GPS on the fly and almost ran someone over while doing so. It scared the crap out of me, and the other person no doubt. I don't do that anymore.
This video sends a powerful message. Texting fools can disregard it at their peril.

Very serious.
And I am perfectly OK with that.
I am sure plenty of other people don't have pressing business deals, booty calls and Flames scores and can wait until they get out of the drivers seat to do so...
There is a difference between getting the odd text and using it as your primary form of communication.

And the peril of the innocent people who can get creamed by the texters.
Many of the responses here could be put in a time capsule, then pulled out in 15 years and we'd all drop our jaws on how insanely dumb people can be.

Or we are just getting dumber by the minute so in 15 years it will be the norm.
Does anyone have any stats on what percentage of accidents are made by a particular distraction?

Where I come from teenage drunk driving is so rampid that for Gr.12 they held an assembly where an ambulance driver showed pictures of real accidents and talked about the medical stuff he had to do ect. Alot of people were excused from the gym because it was so graphic. But the average is 3 kids a year are killed drunk driving, and thats in a small town.

I like how they implement guilt trips to make a point.
Girl looks at her dead friends who she killed and starts screaming cuz it took her 17 years to figure out shes too dumb to make any more. Check.
Camera focuses on the eyes of a dead baby, dead baby. Check.
Toddler asking "why wont mummy daddy wake up?" cuz shes obviously to young and innocent to wrap her head around the finality of death. Check.
Watching this is the video guilt trip equivalent to going to grandmas house.
