I found a quirk/feature/great deal on the Orbitz website, though. If you book the flight and hotel at the same time, choose Silver Point Villa for 7 nights. The price drops significantly from 6 nights, due to some promotion. Total cost $1400USD and change for 2 people! That's $700USD/person including flight AND hotel. Seriously good deal.

Silver point villa for sure? I enter that and it says it cant find a property by that name.....

Try entering just Silver point. Or Silver for that matter.
It should be the 2nd result when you sort by price. There's one that's a few dollars cheaper but the hotel isn't nearly as nice.

I have a question for people:
How much is a decent deal for a flight from Calgary to New York?
I want to leave Oct 4 and return on the 8th....
I have it priced at about 550 per person. Is this a good deal?

Look into Air Miles or Aeroplan if you have any points. You'll find that they cost the usual amount of miles, even though the flights are currently twice as expensive as normal and likely won't get much cheaper.

In my opinion a 'good deal' to new york would be in the $300-$375 USD range which I've seen from time to time. But of course there are so many factors, which days of the week you're flying, which New York area airport you're flying into etc.

That's a very average deal. I fly there quite often and a normal price is $500CDN. If you could find a deal for anywhere under $500CDN it would be a good one. Check out Orbitz and Delta right now as they have good stuff for the first week of October.

$485 a person for Oct 5-8 on Westjet
$506 a person for Oct 5-9.
I'd say anything under $450 is a good deal.

St Maarten just dropped to $579 USD on Continental for travel between now and Dec 16. (Now the cheapest Caribbean destination that is over 6000 miles roundtrip)

Thanks! I booked a flight to the Olympics and it only cost me 15,000 aeroplan points! That was such a steal. I imagine in a matter of months flights to Vancouver, Abbotsford and perhaps Seattle will be exhausted. I can't wait, St. Loomis and I are going to see Canada play the US on February 21st!

Nice, that's what ours cost as well. Couldn't find any flights back after the gold medal game, so had to come home the morning of.
My bro picked up a flight on airmiles, I think they're 600. He said he had his pick of pretty much any day, any hour he wanted to go.

I'm thinking I'll drive to the Olympics, but I've got a gap between Feb 17th and 25th, thinking it would be cool do something that's not Vancouver with that time. 1 week trip out of Vancouver during the Olympics - any idea if there would be deals, or will everything be super expensive?

I'm a big fan of Seattle -- if you've never been, it's definitely worth the ~2 hour drive from Vancouver.
Flights in and out of Vancover will probably be jacked up -- just my guess though.

I've been several times though... hoping to find something a bit more exotic.

From Oct 4-8? You're sure that's the after tax price? I'm not seeing anything nearly that cheap in October.
