Default 6 months in prison for yawning in court??

I thought this was rather interesting when I came across it....

http://news.aol.com/article/clifton-...wning%2F610205

This guy (Clifton Williams) was attending his cousins' court hearing, and yawned..... The judge charged him with contempt and sentenced him to 6 months in jail.

Does this judge have an inflated ego?.......what do you think?

Obviously my story isnt half as bad as this but last month in my hockey game I got a penelty for saying the word "Brutal" on my bench... not "FU**ing BRUTAL" or "BRUTAL CALL REF" just "Brutal". I talked to him after the period ended and he said he knew it was directed towards him.

I got kicked out a game when I was around 8 for calling a kid fat after he slashed me.

He has been let out after 3 weeks.

And apparently this just is really tight - he has had people thrown in jail for contempt when their cell phones go off during session.

By any chance does this judge send kids to a special camp from whom he gets kickbacks from?

I don't care if the man was trying to be disruptive or not, 6 months in prison? Seriously?

The judge should get 6 years in jail for trivializing the justice system.

Still.............do you think it is right? 3 weeks does not sound like a long time, but when you are in the slammer for yawning..........it seems way over the top to me, even if he was doing it on purpose.
Who holds judges accountable?

This is good to know.........

"The Illinois Courts Commission, composed of one Supreme Court Justice, two Appellate Court Judges, two Circuit Judges and two citizens, has the authority after notice and public hearing (1) to remove from office, suspend without pay, censure or reprimand any member of the judiciary for willful misconduct in office, persistent failure to perform his or her duties or other conduct that is prejudicial to the administration of justice or that brings the judicial office into disrepute; or (2) to suspend, with or without pay, or retire any member of the judiciary who is physically or mentally unable to perform his or her duties.
A Judicial Inquiry Board created by the 1970 Constitution has the authority to conduct investigations, receive or initiate complaints concerning any member of the judiciary and file complaints with the Courts Commission."

HAHAHAHAHA

I was the Head coach of my sons hockey team last year and got booted for saying exactly the same thing.
Cost my team a 2 min penalty and I got a 2 game suspension.

Was that the first thing you said to the ref that game? Be honest.

Dante Stallworth just killed someone in Miami and he got out after serving 24 days.

I guess the 3 extra days in jail are a reasonable punishment considering the similarities in the crimes.

yup it was, no word of a lie.
It was my assistant coach that was beaking at him the whole time and when I said brutal, I am pretty sure that I caught the wrath of the beaking by my assistant.

lol. Yep, you put him over the edge. Too funny.

I tried my hand at being a ref but I just couldn't handle the coachs screaming at me. Anyway.

From the OP's link:

Quote:
While Rozak did not comment on the charges, a state's attorney's office spokesman, Chuck Pelkie, said Williams did not let out a "simple" yawn. "It was a loud and boisterous attempt to disrupt the proceedings," he said.
Still probably not worth 6 months, but sounds like there's much more to this than a yawn.

Yeah, I read that. 6 months is still embarrassing, a $100 fine might have been more appropriate.
