For shame. I bet Obama will personally slaughter the first baby born after this legislation passes.

It's unbelievable how sheepish so many people in the States are to believe right wing lies. I guess they prefer a system that bankrupts them and denies care to a significant percentage. I guess they don't care about their fellow countrymen. Larry Wilmore on the Daily Show summarized it perfectly last night: a hysterical woman in a town hall meeting cried that she wanted her "America" back. Larry Wilmore said "tell that to the Natives."

Thank God I'm Canadian.

Yep^ The woman linked to in the OP said that universal health care always leads to rationing of health care. So what about the millions in the US who are denied care by their HMO? let alone those who simply cannot afford it.

The problem with wait times is not limited to either system, its rooted in the education system and the amount of doctors and specialists we train.

Anyone remember that one video of that right wing conspiracy theorist who believed Obama was going to start the genocide of Americans? (I think it was called the Obama Deception)

Well, I think his message resonated. :/

Yes, they really do.

Why do you think you see a Fed Gov Sign on road work projects in Alberta. Its because the Feds directed money toward that individual project. The way Canada and the US are supposed to work in theory is that the Feds direct money - not for individ projects but for say infrastructure. The State can then spend that money on infrasructure where they want it.

The Feds are not supposed to be directing cash for specific State projects. There is a reason is called a Union.

I know how the American government works. It's what my degree will be in 6 months. I'm not sure what you are talking about, whether it be pork spending projects, or the Federal government forcing certain infrastructure work at the threat of denying funding in other areas.

There seem to be alot of US Flames fans out there who know for sure what goes on at these meetings - I assume they have been to these meetings as they wouldnt just be rehashing crap they have heard on TV or the interwebs.

Has any of these politically active fans ever bothered to video tape the "Extreme ultra scary right wing propoganda" at these meetings.

If a bunch of mud hut Talibans can hijack planes, then politcally active CP members should be able to get a video camera in there.

I am looking for a full video, not sensationalized clips. Anything part of a discussion can be called extreme if you only video tape the part where people are passionate when they speak.

I am guessing part of the anger comes from those citizens who already pay for premium health care and they are now expected to effectively twice support a secondary system through the insurance they currently pay and now income tax. Public and broad range private care will never work. It has to be one of the other. IMO. The current mecca for liberalism in the US is California, a state that has all the great liberal ideals at work, and yet they cant even pay a bill to a hardware store for $6.72 - the IOU I purchased off Ebay documents this great mecca. Could it be that people in other states see this, and say thanks but no thanks.

Yeah, because you're huge amount of knowledge has been evident in this thread. How does it really work? Let me guess, they are all corrupt? Politicians are out for their own self-interest? These thoughts never occurred to me. But I've never had your great mind for things, mikey.

Pelosi never said that people against health care reform were nazi's or un-American, but that is alright.

Palin, on the otherhand, did say that Obama would have "death panels"

What I am saying is........the U.S. government is not working properly. It is not serving the interests of its' people. And if you deny any corruption in the U.S. you are simply blind.....

How about, in honour of the American soldier, we stop making stuff up? - Sarah Palin

The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's "death panel" so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their "level of productivity in society," whether they are worthy of health care. Such a system is downright evil. - Sarah Palin

I even said the system is broken in my first post. So what are you trying to say to me?

Corruption is part of any government. Corruption in the US government is the exception not the rule, however.

The interests of its people? What is the interest of the American people? Because their are about 300 million of them. What you'll find is they all differ, and that's why nothing gets done in Congress.

You want to do quotes? Lets do quotes.
Quote:
“I don’t know how much that hip replacement cost,” Obama said in the interview. “I would have paid out of pocket for that hip replacement just because she’s my grandmother.”

Obama said “you just get into some very difficult moral issues” when considering whether “to give my grandmother, or everybody else’s aging grandparents or parents, a hip replacement when they’re terminally ill.

“That’s where I think you just get into some very difficult moral issues,” he said in the April 14 interview. “The chronically ill and those toward the end of their lives are accounting for potentially 80 percent of the total health- care bill out here.”

No, nothing gets done in Congress because the people drafting the bills and sending them to Congress so they can legislate them are out of touch will what WOULD work, and what the American people want.

This health care bill isn't being stopped because the Republicans are pissing and moaning.

The Democrats don't NEED the Republicans. They control Capital Hill.

And yet, people are blaming this 'vast right wing conspiracy' for not letting this health care bill be passed.

Funny how that works.

During her recent visit to a San Francisco hospital, a San Francisco Chronicle reporter asked her whether there is "legitimate grass-roots opposition" to the Democrats' healthcare plan.

"I think they are Astroturf," she responded.

Then she referred to hecklers at a town hall meeting: "They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on healthcare."

This rant has very little to do with what I said but anyway. Legislators are not really out of touch with what the American people want. They each know what their own constituency wants and that's what they push. A statement like "what the American people want" is just ridiculous. 300 million people do not want the same thing. And when 60% of people want a concrete piece of legislation, it tends to get passed.

Polls show that people tend to, on a large scale, disprove of what Congress as a whole is doing, yet approve of their own representatives. In other words, people can't really comprehend that they need to sacrifice local issues if they want to succeed with national endeavors. Not that it's always a good idea to promote national legislation over localized legislation, which it isn't.
